forged carbon fiber steering wheel

The ricer mods continue. Got the forged carbon fiber steering wheel since I think it goes better with my piano black interior, which i like alot. I was gonna go with a legit racing steering wheel, but my buddies talked me out of it, mainly due to insurance coverage denial in a event of a accident that stopped me from getting a legit racing wheel w/ no airbag.

I ordered it from cartrimhome, so its made of the highest quality chinesium you can buy. Will i die in a accident? probably, but its okay, YOLO.

Ordering: takes forever, apparently its made to order.

Communication: its great, although its in broken english/chinese.

Durability: no clue, time will tell.

Pros: looks cool, and easy to install. Stitching is spot on.

Cons: Unlike our stock steering wheel, there is absolutely no padding behind the leather, and the leather finger grooves are not comfortable if you are resting your palms on it, since there is no give.

very shallow finger grooves behind the steering wheel (CF portion) so its very SLICK.

Also I think if you like to wear mood rings, or push pops, you will probably scratch your steering wheel to crap.

Not sure if its real CF or a dip, i can't tell at all. Smells like real leather, but i didn't do a taste test, so I am not 100 percent certain.

Overall, i like it, but its really serves absolutely no purpose whatsoever, other than it looks cool.

This looks really good! LOL @ Chinesium

Thanks for showing off and experimenting with all these cool new products. I have seen a lot of the custom steering wheels but not in a 4R yet.

I sort of want one, but I would prioritize getting one for my RS5 before the 4R.
 
Looks good, I've been going back and forth with getting a CF chinesism wheel for a while, definitely miss the thicker grip wheel I had on my 4th gen

its definitely not thicker, it is pretty much stock.

On my OEM wheel, i put a threaded on cover for like 15 bucks from amazon, that made it thicker and I quite liked it. It looked and felt OEM, added more padding also and preserved the OEM leather. Installation is also really easy, just extremely time consuming. That mod was worth way more than 15 bucks at the time, lol.

The CF wheel definitely makes me happy when i drive it, so i think its worth it if you want to splurge a little. Since, I've made up my mind that I'm not ever gonna sell my 4runner, these fun mods make financial sense to me in the long run.

As for these CF wheels, i think they all are made by the same people, so shop around, you can find it pretty cheap (hint, hint, flea bay).

Yeah, trying hard not to end up with a cookie cutter t4r build.

Your RS5 deserves a alcantara steering wheel. I had one in my 350z back in the day...it was like sex for your hands....lol.

lol yea for the RS5 I wouldn't buy chinesium as it deserves name brand. Were you on my350z? I still have my G35 but now its strictly a project car.

yeah i was on the 350z forums back in the day. I do miss the 350z, it was a fun car to own and drive. It was pretty heavily modified by 2006 standards, not by today's standards.

Kinda sketchy in the rain though, even with good tires, but i do miss it. Tempted to buy one again as a project car, but rather just buy a new supra.

The sew it on yourself is probably better and it also acts like additional padding (feels better and thicker). It wasn't hard to do, and it was dirt cheap. I would consider this an actual upgrade since it does make it thicker in a good way.

The carbon steering wheel is literally just a flex piece, and I still don't like the fact that there is no padding under the leather portion. If i had to do it again i probably would not do it again, mainly because i was pretty happy with the cheap o sew on kit.
