Found a Bug Deflector

I used to have a bug deflector on a 2000 Ford F150. I haven't considered one since that experience due to the fact that:

a - bugs still get smashed up on the windshield despite the deflector and

b- leaves and debris get trapped behind the deflector and the deflector needs to be removed to periodically clean underneath of it.

In other words, not worth it IMHO.
 
Not all bug deflectors are made the same as mine doesn't get stuff trapped behind it and if it did it doesn't sit close enough to trap debris against the paint and is easy to clean behind without removing it. Also weigh in where you live since if you live in a climate that sees snow and such a big guard will also keep the leading edge of your hood free from chips and dings.

This is the result of a truck flinging a large rock at my truck and w/o the deflector there my hood would've ended up with a big dink in it and instead of costing a few hundred it cost me $40 to replace the deflector.

I donno bout these guys but I love my Bug Deflector. I think it looks great!! I have a 4th Gen and wouldn't consider taking mine off.
 
GhostRunner never mind the naysayers...do what you like! I've had 'deflectors' on both of my Toyota's and will put one on my next vehicle too!

unibrow, mustache, whatever you want to call it, i agree, lame. like those things really keep bugs off anything besides that little strip anyway.So Gay
 
I live in Colorado and if you'ved seen a hood's edge from here that is simply left unprotected you see the damage and some dings go down to bare metal leading to rust. Bugs are the least of my concerns but a slightly taller deflector creates a bit taller draft and can deflect debris (including bugs) over the truck. Otherwise it's just personal preference.
 
Ya...was a little discouraged by that first post.. but I used to have a deflector on my Honda Passport and I thought it looked nice...I had to replace it after a rock cracked it so I figured just that was worth it.

I thought someone would be interested so if anybody or myself gets one lets post a pic and see how it looks!

I think the lo profile EGR would look good. I may give it a shot. I could clear bra the front but prior experience doing that on a white care makes me go against it. It leaves too much of a defined line on the hood.

Alright everyone, you will have to wait. Although the web site found by Ghostrunner does say the bug shields listed are for a 2010, they are wrong. The web site "etrailer" refers to EGR company out of Calif. I looked them up, and their products. The only have bug shields for up to 2009, and the CS rep does not have any information for bug shields for 2010. They do however have side window visors (Smoke) coming out in May of 2010. Part number 575221. Apparently, they will also fit the 2011 model as they are already showing the same part number for the 2011. But again, not until May. The CR Rep was going to e-mail Product development and ask why no bug shield yet and get back to me....I will not hold my breath. Check it out yourself at

I would like advice on bug deflectors. I haven't had one on a vehicle in a long time, but I find the windshield on my 2010 T4R SR5 to be quite vertical and even in only daytime driving, I have caught LOTS of bugs.

Is there something to look for that would send the bugs up and over the T4R? Does the height of the deflector dictate the results, or is the slope/angle of it more important?

In order for a bug deflector to do as you desire, you would have to looking through it in order to drive. Most bug deflectors will only allow the bugs to splat a little higher on the window....lol, right in your viewing area.

Seriously, outside of looks and deflecting a few rocks and such from denting and scratching the paint at the front the hood, they do little to actually deflect many bugs. Your going to have to get used to windex in the morninig.
 
You guys expect too much from a bug deflector but they do stop some of them and I use my deflector to protect from rocks and aren't too concerned with bugs since they are only a problem for a few months of the year here in Colorado while rocks/debris are a year round problem.
