true. maybe if you omitted the jerry-can carrier and only had the swing-out spare... sure, departure angles to consider, but it would put some counterbalancing weight on the 4Runner's passenger side. (dovetails with discussion of aux battery installs on another thread; kodiak v. ABR sidewinder kits.)

The rear bumper will be modular. You will be able to get both sides, or either right or left, and they can flip to whichever side you want.

As far as departure angle, they made it clear its not a rockcrawler, id be more concerned with sides of the bumper than a little less departure angle if it were meant for crawling. The bumper is strong, if it were to hit something due to departure angle being a little worse, 1/4" steel would take that just fine.

And visibility???? Im pretty sure anyone buying a rear tire/gas can/hilift carrier, the visibility out of their rear window is not of very high priority, if you want visibility put it on the roof or keep it under the truck...


And as far as weight, I have had multipule rear bumpers, with swing out tire carriers,high lift and gas on my older 4runners, and I had run them for many years, beat the crap out of them and they did not drop an 1/8th of an inch from the day I put them on from "frame bending" or flexing...
 
Reverse Camera?

I can't remember where the reverse camera is located on the handle.

Does it look like you can still use the camera with the tire and cans mounted?

Was it positioned in the right spot so you can still see directly behind you?
 
I would almost guess that the camera is lining up with the edge of the gas containers. The camera is off center to the driver side a few inches. You might be able to see directly behind the 4Runner but for the most part it would probably be useless. Hawkdog will probably give you a better answer.

didn't somebody say that they were using the same 4Runner that they tested during the FourWheeler of the Year comparison? That truck had KDSS and NAV.

Do you think its a different truck or did they strip out the KDSS components?

The pics I saw were too small for me to see any true suspension detail.

Oh well, its still bad-ass.
 
actually, it'd be cool to have that rear bumper with the option to have the swing-outs on or off. i'd have it/them off most of the time; put the spare on when there's a chance it may be called into service. :)
 
^^That wouldn't be a bad idea.

I wish the 5th gens had the rear door like the FJ's, along with the OEM Tire Carrier, that would be cool!!

Just found this on their facebook site, Awesome Job in integrating everything and keeping the stock bumper cover and etc.

Update:
1.The Camera is indeed between the two sides, it is located directly under the "R" in 4"R"unner. The tire will undoubtedly cover a lot of the picture though, but it will still work to some degree.

2.The 4runner they are using does not have KDSS or NAV, so it must be different than the one they tested.

3. The arms can come off, so you could run on the road with no arms and it would look almost stock, not much extra weight and the camera would not be blocked in anyway, and then you can throw the arms on whenever you want to hit the dirt.

Updated pics, the most amazing thing is how well it integrates into the stock bumper.

I heard back today from EVO about them going into production with the sliders and bumper and this was their response.

We do plan to produce these two products and have some other great
products that are planned and on our production schedule for the beginning
of 2011. We did plan to have a few other products shown on the vehicle you
are speaking of but our very tight timeline for the vehicle has forced us
to cut back on a couple items for this build.

I wonder if they had another 4Runner, if they would attempt to make a front bumper that could be somewhat hidden behind the front bumper fascia, one that included a winch mount similar to the Lucrum but also get rid of the oem aluminum bumper and extend it outwards for better protection, all while be somewhat hidden. Also include a couple shackle points. Similar to how they did the rear setup. OEM bumper covers and everything hidden inside.

Something along those lines would be AWESOME!!
 
i am so totally impressed with that rear bumper. and they did it on a deadline. unreal.

the funny/sad thing is that the profile shot only underscores how horsey the ARB bumper truly is... maybe someone needs to put the ARB guys on a deadline.

Seriously, ARB has a great hold in their market so there is no need for them to hurry up for anyone... blah... Its amazing how these smaller shops can do such a nice time in a realistic time window...

The guy said they are taking the truck back after sema, so im sure if there is enough of a demand they would be happy to fab up a hidden winch mount...
 
They are gonna make some money off of me. That rear bumper is just awesome. I hope they have some ideas for the front.

I have other plans for water, but that install is clean.
