Fox 2.5 DSC install questions/install

Installing Fox 2.5 CO with 600 springs. How much thread should be exposed in order to get ~3" lift? Out of the box is showing 2-3 threads, maybe 1/4".

I've heard mixed reviews on this. Certainly the older version with 2 rings it's very difficult. Even with the single ring version it sounds like it's hit an miss.
I don't mind making small adjustments on the vehicle but I'd prefer to not have to spin the collar down 3-4".
 
They aren't too bad to adjust installed with that corner jacked up. Only loosen the pinch bolt enough to spin the collar, too loose and it'll jump threads. LUBE it up good. The spanner tools that come with coilovers are junk, get a big punch that fits the holes (3/8" I think? don't quote me there). Mine have ~1-1/4" thread showing for 3" lift v8 with dual battery and twin compressor up front, no bumpers or winch.

Do you know what springs you have? It looks like mine came with 14" 600 lb springs. I'm surprised you got 3" lift with such little thread showing, that's encouraging. Thanks for the feedback

I could check the part numbers when I get home but I didn't specify spring when I ordered so I assume they are the standard 14" 600#.

Pretty sure that's the hardest possible way to adjust them. If you know what they need to be adjusted to it's about 1000x easier to put them on a bench and clamp the top hat or use a crow bar through the bolts and turn it. Can you adjust them on the truck? Sure, but it sucks dick with everything in the way. If they're out already do them off the truck.

Yeah I agree. Fox is claiming they're preset for 3" lift, I don't see how that's possible with so little thread showing. These are supposed to be for 0-3" lift so there's no way to back them off to 0"?
I just want to get it close so I'm not turning it so many times on the vehicle.

My girlfriend has the normal 2.5" Fox coilovers, I would assume the spring is the same but I can't find any markings saying the rate that are (easily) visible. She's at 22" hub to fender and 2.75" of thread showing. She has an aluminum plate bumper and that's it.

Counted mine for ya, I have 12-13 threads showing above the collar. There are older versions with shorter springs which might be where people are getting the 2.75" thread showing. I know looking at another guy's build before I bought mine he had about 3" of thread showing.

Thanks for checking. I'll count 12-13 for a starting point and set the driver side a little higher. Hoping it's not too difficult to adjust on the vehicle.
Excited to try this set up as I was never too fond of the 5100/Tacoma spring combo. Always felt bumpy and stiff at the top but would blow through the travel on big bumps.
 
Please keep us updated as I'm interested to know how much lift you get from 12 threads showing. Thanks . Do you have any added weight? What did you use in the rear?

That was my exact impression of 5100s as well. No complaints with the Fox with DSC, high speed compression always set at highest setting, low speed compression all the way low for slow offroad crawling, all the way high for "aggressive street driving" but usually a couple clicks back off of highest setting for daily driving or long road trip comfort.

I'll definitely post when it's all together. Rear will likely be a 2.0 non resi but might not go with Fox as I hear complaints about them being too stiff.
No added weight right now but plan to add C4 low-pro bumper/winch at some point. I think it'll still be fine but may go to 650 lb springs at that point.
My priority will always err on the side of daily driving comfort as the roads out here are just complete $hit

For the rear go wit a 10" travel universal stem mount 2.0 they're cheap and almost as long as the long travel shocks out there, ride really smooth on/off road due to softer valving than 4runner specific. Just pair with long travel springs, bump stock drops, and extended brake lines and enjoy the flex!

How much rear spring lift do you need to run the 10" travel shocks?

Initial update here. Passenger side was a pain as the resi bracket arrangement is very tight. Driver side was much faster. UCA were probably the easiest part of the hole thing.
Also I wish Fox would use studs on the top hat as that would make it more of a one man job. Lining up bolts is tough while holding the CO with the other hand.
Fox was 100% correct in that the CO's were set for ~3". I guess the discrepancy is the these came with 14" 600 springs instead of 13". This is great if you're looking for 3" with almost no threads showing, bad if you want 2.5" or less. I supposed you'd have to go to 13" springs.
Pics below, hub to fender driver is 23" right now, and 23.5" passenger. I still have a little adjustment left but seems like I will end up 23 1/8" both sides to make it even.
Sway bar doesn't seem centered, off by maybe 1/4"?
UCA boot seems to leave a portion of ball in the back exposed? Need to email JBA.
ABS sensor lines end up too short so you have to improvise the brackets a bit.
I got 3 degrees+ castor back after driving around for 4 years at 0. I will probably ask them to set at 4 next time.
Anyway I'll stop rambling and post more updates later, rides like a dream compared to 5100's but I'm still trying to sort out adjusters.
