FOX Coil Overs

I know folks are running all kinds of various products, lifts and coil overs. Anyone see any issues with this quote? I know FOX makes pretty good stuff, just want to run it by you guys/gals first before I pull the trigger. Thanks in advance.

Wow that's a lot of labor charges...

What are your plans for the 4Runner? Fox may be a little overkill...

There are some pretty nice (and more popular) adjustable CO setups out there for less.

I thought it was a little overkill myself, but when I asked one of the owners how much his suspension cost on his truck and he replied "10K+" I immediately thought to myself, well someone has to pay for the lift on his truck.

Not really sure what i want to do with my 4Runner. Some days I drive it to pick up groceries, some days I take it to the lake, maybe the hunting land and drive it in the woods. Either way I drive it like it was stolen. In the future I do plan on putting a bumper on the front.

You could probably take one guess where that quote came from, but yes their labor charges are high in my opinion, but a lot of people South of the Birmingham area use them.

8 hours of labor to install a lift sounds like overkill. theyre hustling you. 4 hours for the front, 4 hours for the rears? really? my friend and I finished the rear around 2 hours and the fronts in about 3 hours...and we're just amateurs!

i would suggest calling around to see what how many hours other shops would charge for labor.

It sounds like for your needs you'd be better off with bilstein 5100s and some OME or Toytec coils.

The adjustable and uniball coil overs, shocks, and UCAs they included in your quote are made for more hardcore off-roading and typically have to be rebuilt after a few years due to their design. A lot of them also squeak more than most 'mostly-road' drivers want to put up with.

You could get the same amount of lift and much more moderate system for closer to $1,200 including front and rear shocks and coils as well as UCAs.

The install is also fairly easy and a large amount of members here have done it on their own. I installed mine and it was the first full suspension lift I'd ever done. It only takes 3-5 hours with common tools.

i did my rear springs in 30 mins in a parking space. 4 hours is BS.

i also think you dont need uniball ucas and could save by going with SPC LR UCAs

I agree with this too, I've installed about 8-10 of these suspensions and never spent more than an hour on the rear.. And that was by myself.

I agree with you all, except I am not driving to California, I have that checked off on my list already

Thanks for the input. I am now thinking i will not go this route, just wanted some second, third, fourth, fifth.... opinions before spending that much money.

I did my cornfed myself several years ago, so chances are I will do this install myself. Just need to figure out what to buy.

Don't you need 2 rear coils, invoice said 1?

Labor sounds too much, I paid $600 and thought I got taken to school.

the coils are a pair. 1 x pair, I thought the same thing too when I first went over the quote with the guy.

My 2 cents:

Labor is very high

Those rear shocks are the low end of the lineup. You may find the OME 895 springs are at the max of the range for that damper. I have the Fox Adjustable Resi rear shocks and the 895's are close to the limit. When I rebuilt them I am going to add a little more platform to the valving of the rear shocks.

You may find Uni-ball UCA a little high maintenance if you spend a lot of time in wet conditions. I am reviewing all my UCA options right now myself.

The front coilovers are ok. You might be better served by spending a tad more on Fox mid-level or looking at other options that are a tad cheaper with similar quality.

According to Alldata,

Front Strut Replacement in front for both sides is 2.6hrs & 2.8hrs to replace both upper control arms (not including alignment).

Rear shocks are 1hr for both sides, and 1.4hrs for both rear springs.
