Frame Rot Repair

Noticed Rot on Frame behind gas tank. Cut it out.

Sandblasted the area and cut some replacement pieces for both sides of the frame rail.

I would check those welds out very closely if i were you.

I'm no expert but that looks more like solder than welds. Good luck with the repair, most people are too scared to tackle this. You need to lay a nice bead man.

As someone who has had this job done on more than 2 4runners -

Lay those welds on there thick and thicker at all levels. Over doing it is better than not enough.

Arc / stick is best and go to town! those beads may break under load/bumps etc.

i agree, i admire you trying but those welds have absolutely no integrity. Have the repair done professionally. I would not want to be on the same road as that 4Runner.

I barely weld, but I weld better than that.

You **NEED** to cut that all back out and re-replace it.

You **NEED** to spend some time running beads on similar material until you can get a *WELD*, not just blobs of metal on metal.

Gumballing metal isnt going to do shit when you hit a bump, and all that opej space you left under the framerail should have been taken up by steel plate.

Please, for your own safety and that of everyone else on the road, cut that back out and re-do it.

OP also, if you really want to weld your self. Practice on scrap metal. Make sure you clean any dirty, rusty metal with a good sand disk before welding. And use weld through primer.

Thanks for all the constructive criticism. I agree with the welding. I will grind it all down and weld at my friends. I will post pics of the re-weld after I get it done. He has a much nicer 220 welder that will lay an awesome bead with ease. I should have just tacked it and brought it to his place initially.
