free e-locker retrofit and tests?

welllll I've got this e-locker from a buddy at work for the free. im sooo excited to get this bad boy in my rig. Now i have a few questions for the guys that are more familiar with these. First i know it has bad pinion bearings and a shot carrier bearing. Also my buddy snagged the companion flange to build a tool for himself. nooow on to the questions......

1. How would i go about doing a bench test on the solenoid to make sure its still in good working order?

2. I have seen the kits inchworm carries for wiring, now i want to do more of an oem hook up. Is the ecu for the locker necessary to make my diff lock light pop on? I have traced all my wiring and the harness has everything for the locker to plug right in except the sub harness to the actual locker.

3. It also looks like there is 2 places for a wiring harness to plug onto the diff, is one for the acuator and the other for the engagement light?

4. Where can i get a companion flange? my work at the dealership wants 78 my price!!!! Also what are the best quality rebuild kits for the 3rd member??

As far as a bench test, you want to get yourself a battery and put it next to the 3rd. Get 2 wires, put one on the positive, one on the negative. Touch the tires to the 2 terminals on the bigger plug on your diff (the other plug is just the lock sensor, tells your computer that the diff is locked, to answer your other question). This will make the motor engage and lock the diff. Now reverse the wires, and this will make the diff unlock. Easy bench test.

To make your dash light work, first put a bulb in the spot on the dash for RR DIFF LOCK. Then follow these steps. Works the same for the E locker.

This will only work if your locker not on a constant power supply. Use an add-a-circuit to power it, off of the 4wd fuse location in your fuse box under the dash. Otherwise your RR DIFF LOCK light will never turn off.

Thanks Stockwell45 I figured I could test it with one of my battery jumpers. I'm just wandering which terminal on the connector for testing. It has 5 different terminals, which ones should be connected to positive and which for negative?

It would be the 2 pins opposite the 3 pins.

From the pictures it looks like the flange is gone....

If it is the stock OEM gear then get a 27 spline flange, just make sure the gear hasn't been replaced because they may have used a 29 spline pinion

Almost forgot, do not touch the wires to the terminals for more than a second. You could actually overextend the gears in there and damage the locker. Just do it enough that you hear the motor moving and move it back in the same amount of time.

Like Singtoe said, touch them to the 2 bigger contacts in there. They are bigger than the other 3 and on one side of the plug.
