Friend of the Beast has issue at dealership in Alaska

A friend bought a 2008 SR5 30K miles a few months ago. as the weather warmed the passenger side window up and down made a horrible screech. she took it in. dealer says passenger door was "hyperextended" caused damage and not covered under her 36K warranty. she laughed said "you betcha". talking with the owner of the dealership now.

it's a mechanical failure in the window assembly I say and would be covered.

raise a stink and read the warranty papers carefully. hyperextended, what is it an elbow injury? dealers are quick to take your money but hell to get them to fix anything correctly.

I would hope the dealer would do the right thing and fix the default, and fix it for free.

I did the exact same thing, hyper extended the drivers side door check. I bought the new part, $75 on wholesale day but normally they are $93. Had my friend install it however the issue of the window not going all the way down with the door closed still occurred. When you hyper extend that part, it rips up some rubber lining inside the door which causes the window to not track correct. Very annoying as now I can only get my window to go all the way down only if I have the almost all the way open!

In Utah....on unfamiliar trail/no spotter/wheeling alone....in reverse....door open because I couldn't see what I needed to see with the door closed....looking at where the back tire was in comparison to a large rock....door into tree...horrible metal & plastic sounding CRUNCH. So basically to save my rim from getting rock rash....I caused $150 damage to drivers side door.

Driver error. VERY embarrassing driver error.

Let me see if I understand this issue. If you open your door while your suspension if flexed, it could cause a door hyperextension / window problem?

I get it now... and ID-10-T Error :bravo:
I ended up with new rear LCAs because of my own ID-10-T error on a trail.

It's a Bummer! But at least it is trail damage and not some tool who doesn't know how to drive (on the pavement) driving and yacking on the phone not paying attention. Somehow minor trail damage doesn't seem to "hurt" as bad. If only the 4R could just "walk it off". :biggrin2:

Sounds about right. Don't forget to add in tree's to the equation. Esp. ROUGE Toyota hating trees that like to leap out of no where trying to take a bite out of your rig. It's all good. I have carnage from rocks, may as well add trees.

Like a long time wheeler said to me after I was lamenting over my 1st carnage, he said to me that each ding, scratch, creaky part has a story that is unique to your rig and you. It's the story that made the drive worth while!

Sorry for the delay in responding. The cat got out. No actually I have been on the road.

She is still waiting for the dealer to decide what they are going to do. Despite being an outdoor kinda woman she plays with guns not cars so if the damage you describe Ruffian occurred then it should have been disclosed under the Toyota Certified or repaired. Either way, will let cha all know.

Call up Toyota customer service and ask them to do it under good will. They are actually pretty understanding.

I am surprised the dealer is giving your friend a hard time about the issue. It probably isn't even that hard to have it covered under warranty. It is all how they write it up.

Update. Dealer yesterday said that they would pay for repairs. Friend is happy, Beast's Friend is happy. T4R members are happy......all good. Thanks once again :hello:

Beast's friend is all better. She convinced them to fix it up close and personal. I imagine her baby blues did not hurt the equation. Window moves well without a squeal now. :trophy:
