From the FJC to the 4Runner

Hey all - San Antonio here, new to the t4r, came from a 13 trail FJC. I call the new truck the Albino Rhino:

Although my experience thus far has been exceptionally positive, building a shopping list for mods for the t4r has been surprisingly more difficult than the FJC due to the much more limited after-market support, specifically:

  • There is no good way to mount a 10lb CO2 (and fire extinguisher?) tank upright in the vehicle for permanent use?
  • Is there any documented way to mount a full length front runner rack to a 5th gen?
  • Fitment of 33's on a 3" Icon lift without rub

I haven't seen a frontrunner, just the eezi-awn k9, similar, except slats run front to back
I've seen a few tanks and extinguishers installed here, try a search, or just browse through the build threads

as for the last question... you're talking about changing the most expensive parts of the model you bought, people will give you hell about it

Welcome and nice truck. I also came from an Fj and agree that the aftermarket isn't as big as the Fj but I think the 4Runner has always been that way since I experienced the same with my 97. Different beasts, Fj is more like a wrangler in comparison to aftermarket.
 
Welcome! I'm in SA and just went from an '07 FJ to the TEP. Intact I may have I even looked at the TRD Pro you got. The TEP I was waiting on in Dallas came in though so I just went with it. What side of . SA are you in?

I too came from a 13 FJC TTSE AT. (pictures in my Member's Picture Albums & in my Sig).

I agree, not as many aftermarket modding items for the T4R, but people here are imaginative and always coming up with good ideas for mods.

Nice name BTW!

Came from a 2011 FJ as well.
My build was pretty intense, and I plan to do the same with the t4r!
I do wish Doc over at Springtail Solutions would jump on board for 4Runners!
I'm finding there are plenty of aftermarket items, you just have to dig deeper to find them.

Wow, lot of former FJ owners in this thread. I still have my Faj and would never part of it's it for another vehicle. Fortunately for me my wife has the 4Runner we we have the bases covered.
 
Really miss my FJ, but needed the space for family. Soon my 4Runner will look like the FJ. there are quite a few things I like more about the 4Runner, especially the leg room. But taking things apart, there are so many similarities.
Wish I could have kept both.

I do miss my supercharged FJ as well. Made the change as soon as we had our kid on the way. Love what you did with yours by the way.
 
A 10lb tank should be no problem to mount on the left rear. I've always manufactured my own mounts on my previous trucks and I run a 15lb tank. but I'm sure there's lots of existing brackets out there to make something work without having to make your own, plenty room.

Boating stores tend to be the best. Check into a west marine if there's one around you, they have awesome brackets and mounting stuff.

Just surfed in here after sending Doc an email looking for the same thing! Also moving from an FJC to 5th Gen 4Runner and will miss the O2/Fire extinguisher mount the most from my FJC.
