Front axle nut torque?

2005 4 Runner Limited AWD, I've got a new front bearing assembly coming from nj636 and have a question of what the cv axle nut torques to? I was on the toyotech forum looking around..... one guy says 173 ftlb.... another guy states 150 ftlb..... a third guy says "173 or 150- your truck won't know the difference". Really? I do know if you over tighten those hubs they will self destruct. Anyone know the correct torque?

Service manual says 173 ft lb. I just use position 6 on the 1/2" impact and let it run a few seconds. On a fastener of that size, you have a good hundred or two ft/lb range of torque to work with between things coming loose and things crushing.

I did NOT torque one of mine down to spec when I replaced the cv axles over a year ago and will be replacing wheels bearings this weekend as a result. I confirmed with Bill from Marion Auto (he sells same bearings as the guy you bought them from + warranty) that 173 ft lbs is the mark to hit. I only have a 150ftlb torque wrench but will get the remaining 23lbs using a breaker bar or impact gun.
