New to 4Runners. I've had a few older Jeeps and 2 Cherokees a Chevy and a Ford and I had an 86 Toy Truck many years ago. I picked up a 93 V6, Auto, loaded with fairly low miles this week and look forward to playing in the dirt with it.
After cleaning and changing the vitals, I took it to the wall test I used for my last Jeep. The wall is just a bit low than the front bumper and usually I can drive a wheel up to test the system. Well when I tried it on the 4Runner, the front axle acted as though it had a LSD in it but what was most interesting, is there were moments when you could hear the slipping with neither wheel turning, then the wheel with least traction would slip. It seemed like the AWD Jeeps that allowed for slipping in the transfer case but this sounded as though it was from the front axle.
I've done some research on the web and can't seem to find anything that explains this so I thought I would check with the experts over here. Am I imagining something or is there some sort of a clutching system that will allow the diff to briefly slip if both axles area stuck?
