Front Brake Hose Replacement

My 1998 needs both front brake hoses replaced as the outer material is flaking and cracked. I have several questions below. Thanks in advance.

1. Should I get aftermarket hoses ($25) or Toyota OEM ($100)? Is the extra price worth it? I’m concerned with longevity and/or quality.

2. Should I go ahead and change the hoses for the rear brakes also?

3. Do I need to do a brake fluid flush or is a brake bleed adequate? What are pros and cons of doing either?

I used napa and boy did it change my brake pedal feel.

I still haven’t replaced my rear hose. I know I should.

I use the synthetic brake fluid dot 3 or 4.

If your fluid is dark suck out the tank and put fresh fluid in and bleed until it’s clear on all 4 corners.

My one rig has advance ones in it.. I just put them in so I can't tell you the durability of them yet. Brake fluid draws moisture so +1 on what our other member says. If it's dark or black change it out and give it a good bleeding..

Replaced all 3 brake hoses a couple years ago. Got OEM hoses from Amayama, good price. Toyota USA is gouging on these parts. OEM hoses are great, but if I was in a hurry, I'd go with NAPA and just don't expect them to last 18 years.

I haven't replaced mine yet but I plan to go with aftermarket as my truck probably won't be on the road for another 7 years due to rust. Replacing the rear brake hose is recommended but also not extremely important. PB Blast the connections and use a brake line wrench. Wire brush helps too

I am replacing all mine with aftermarket SS braided from Wheeler's for $99 (stock length front and extended rear)

I had to cut the rear line off at the edge of the rubber line then use a 17mm deep socket to get mine off.

replace them all, if front 2 are shot the condition of the rear must not be good either.
If I need brake hoses right away I will go to Napa, if I can wait a few days I order stainless steel lines

+1 on braided SS lines for all four wheels, extended lines if you’re lifted.

Not much isn't made overseas at this point considering cost. Realistically, anything is possible when mass manufacturing is involved, even US-made products fail.

I don't hear of the auto box stores flex hoses failing quickly. Mostly they last a very long time. I keep an eye on my advanced ones.
