Front Bumper experiences

Hey Guys,

My 06 4 Runner just rolled over 100k miles on a shed hunting trip up to Garden Valley here in Idaho. Things were going great until a family of deer decided to run in front of me on on Highway 55. I was able to miss the first one but the second one sped up and I drilled it. Needless to say the driver side of my bumper is done. I'm going to need a whole new bumper. Luckily it was a young deer and it didn't mess with my hood or even break my light.

I'm curious as to the cost of an OEM replacement in your guys' experience at shops in your areas. Also, what kind of labor you've had when installing an aftermarket bumper because I'm debating about going that route...I have bilsteins and fj springs up front.

It will probably touch into 1k or more for an OEM bumper assuming the insurance company buys genuine Toyota parts (not always the case.) It will need to be painted and so on.

Aftermarket bumper I would say should be no more than 3 hours or so (including removal of the current bumper), complete with adjusting and such.

Depending on how much the insurance gives you it might be cheaper if you buy an aftermarket one and get it installed.

An OEM would probably run around $500-$750 and thats not including the bumper support and paint.

There are a lot of sites that sell OEM Toyota parts--at suprisingly good prices. I recently bought an OEM Toyota bumper for my 06 Runner and it was $180. Not sure if you'll need to replace any parts behind the bumper, but everything is readily available online and replacing the parts are very easy. You'll just need someone to prep and paint the bumber.

A quote for a new bumper installed and painted was $900. At that point I figured another $300 and get a plated bumper that wouldn't fold next time.

Have a shop paint the bumper but do the install yourself, takes literally less than 30 minutes to DIY but a shop would likely charge you several hours labor.

What color is your runner? I'm having a plate bumper thrown on and will have a pretty good shape full black bumper with fogs and all sitting around in a week or so. I'd let it go really cheap.

Mine is an 06 Runner in Shadow Mica...

The brackets for the bumper are bent and the rear of the drivers side headlight housing cracked as well as the driver side air guide. Other than that is perhaps new adhesive for the wheel well fender flare getting pushed from the bumper.

I'm very seriously considering a CBI Bumper right now. I just started researching the installation process on this to understand if I can forgo purchasing some of the brackets if i went that way. I got two quotes from body shops, both included a new headlamp at $298... $2100 and $1600 respectively. Cheaper option is with insurance preferred discounts...but I didnt even know it was a preferred shop for my insurance. I am just going by people i work with recommendations.

not sure if this helps but i just had something similar happen to mine. A snowplow "jumped" out in front of me, not too bad of damage but ended up getting about $4500 from insurance less a $500 deductible. I paid off my loan a bit and will be saving for a CBI.

the parts that were damaged were the hood, bumper, passenger headlight, grille and a little on the fender, that they wanted to repair. got some new headlights, hood and grille on ebay, and just fix it up as I go.

if your insurance is giving you a lower quote you might want a second opinion.
