Front bumper fender bender... what should I do?

Driving to the movies today and got into a fender bender in the parking lot. I was turning around through some of the parking spots to try and find more spots and half way through the turn into the next lane, a car drives in front of me and drags her door across my bumper. We exchange insurance info and what not, but my question is where should I go from here? What parts would I need to fix this? How much would it be? Would it be worth it to get a Shrockworks bumper? What is involved in that?

The fog light is dangling by some wire behind the bumper... doesn't seem to be any damage to it. The painted part isn't dented, the paint is just rubbed through, but the black plastic pieces are kind of melted and wrinkled up.

A Shrockworks bumper would take about four weeks to be produced/delivered.

It is definitely an awesome product and installation is quite simple. HOWEVER, you can't just install it and call it a day if you want to do it right (at least in my humble opinion). You'd need to do something about your suspension setup.

I was planning on doing something with a lift already anyways. I have the LR UCA's already and I was going to get the Overland Warehouse lift but I guess they closed down. Not really sure where to go with that now.

Does your dealer have a body shop? Do you know of any body shops in your area? Call one they will handle the rest. Or you could call your insurance co and they'll point you to one. Either way I highly doubt your insurance co will pay for a Shrockworks bumper.

She had at least 2-3 seconds to stop. I was almost done with my turn and she came cruising by in front of me not even trying to brake. Not to mention, she couldn't even see over her steering wheel or side door.

Regardless, I was going to install a lift but I wasn't going to do it until later. I guess I can move my timeline up now. As it looks, it would be about $3,500 to do a lift AND a front bumper. I can do the lift now and order the bumper. Hopefully the lead time is 1 month and I can install it when I get home from out of town at the end of the month.

Can the shrockworks bumper fit in the back of my 4runner? I might swing through Houston and grab the bumper on the way back to Oklahoma if it can.

that black plastic doesn't seem repairable. its the actual texture of that part from the TE bumper. looks like you're entire front bumper has to be replaced and then you will need a paint job. local toyota body work will charge anywhere from $500-$700 for the work. Depending on who's at fault, hard to tell without a police report. you may have to claim through your insurance and then comes the deductible question.

if you do go with insurance, they will only pay for fixing the actual damage and nothing more, however you have the option to put any bumper on your vehicle in order to repair the damage but you will have to come up with the difference.

I was rear ended months ago and estimate was around $1,100 to do the repair as estimated by my local toyota body shop. I used the money to do a TE swap part on my SR5. I sent my insurance company a photo of the repaired rear bumper and they cut a check under my name.

So regardless you will be needing a new front bumper, the question is which one? :banana:

Mothers black magic bumper care and meguires scratch remover 2.0 should fix that that right up. Put that big steel contraption piece on and you can run into people all the time and barely get a scratch.

Jeebus!!! i paid $1k for the ARB bar and $900 for the OME lift and did everything myself, no help, including the wife.

That would be awesome for you and future customers if they've figured out a way to decrease their turnaround time. I hope you will not be disappointed since they've already set your expectations.

I've had one on order since March and at that time they told me it wouldn't be ready to early July.

Sounds about right, 13 weeks for me, guaranteed in 12 weeks.

To OP - if you do plan on ordering the Shrockworks bumper just prepare yourself for a long lead time, but it is an awesome bumper and I highly doubt it will fit in your runner.

Do some digging, you will see their on-time status is worse than Jet Blue! (but I hear they make great products, eventually)

I was told an item I shipped back last week to a company would be look at and turned around in 2 days, 6 days later and they have not even looked at it. Don't believe everything you are told.

I just installed mine and the original factory didn't fit in the back without rubbing the rear glass and it is plastic. I would not advise trying to install this yourself. You need at least two people and it is a big job. Will take all day with no problems, problems and missing parts create delays.

As far as the wait time, I would be very surprised as well if it were available in 4 weeks. I thinks 4 months is a better estimation, I ordered mine at the end of February and It arrived at the end of June. Good luck.

Hey Reata, did you have your bumper shipped to your house or to an auto shop? Not sure how to even go about this, but I'm thinking about it. I'll have to get an estimate on the fix. From what I can tell, the black plastic part is $200 and refinishing some of the paint should only be $100 or so.

Thought I'd chime in here since I had to have my ShrockWorks bumper shipped all the way to Canada.

First, the bumpers are crated up for shipping .. shipping weight with the crate is around 260 lbs and the crate is 8 feet long. This is not something where you (and your buddy?) each grab an end and plop it in the back of your 4Runner for the drive home. Best bet is to find a 4x4 shop that will take delivery (hopefully they have a loading dock and a forklift) and will do the installation for you.

Second, all ShrockWorks 5th Gen bumpers to date have taken 13 to 16 weeks from time of order placement. I think for some who ordered their bumpers through the group buy, it may have even been a few weeks longer. Claims of 4 week delivery are false unless production scheduling has drastically changed at ShrockWorks.

Third, I can also confirm that the OEM bumper cover will not fit in the 4Runner. It will however fit in a 4-door Jeep Cherokee Sport, provided you have no passenger(s).

The ARB bumper may be less costly and more readily available than the ShrockWorks bumper but it has the same shipping logistics and installation challenges simply due to size and weight. Plus you have to be okay with having the front of your 4Runner look like the bow of a landing craft.

1) Repair it to OEM.
Parts required: Front bumper cover ($198.74), Left fog lamp bezel ($18.01), Shipping ($32.51), Repainting left corner of the bumper (~$100)
Total Price: ~$350

2) Buy Shrockworks bumper.
Parts required: Shrockworks bumper (~$1600), Suspension lift (~$1000-$1700)
Total Price: $2600-$3300

I was going to buy a lift already anyways, so essentially I'd be paying $1250 extra to get the Shrockworks bumper. I'm just not sure it's worth the extra money...
