Front Bumpers for 5th Gens

Awesome! Thanks for the write up! I really like the look of the stuff shrockworks puts out. Now we just need a thread made for 5th gen rear bumpers/rock sliders and it will be complete!

It's definitely not as "huge" in person, however it hangs off of the front more so than the Shrockworks and for sure the 4xLabs model. I love the ARB so each his own.

Chris Hefty just bought a 5th gen last month so we should start seeing some new bumpers soon. I know he is going to build them out of steel or aluminum as I currently have an aluminum rear swing out bumper on order.
I am glad to see so many manufactures jumping on the 4runner wagon should be a lot of choices soon.

My wife sneezed this morning and rear-ended a boat. Yes, everything I just typed is accurate.

There's a large tear/hole in the lower bumper cover; the upper grill is broken; upper bumper cover has two small holes. We have full insurance, but a high deductible. If it gets repaired I'm going back with steel.

Do any of these bumpers require cutting/removal of the existing bumper? This is desirable at this point. It looks like all the full versions remove the lower cover for increased approach angle.

I had my heart set on an SouthernSS hybrid as a birthday present to myself, but I don't think that will cover enough of the damage. Any word on the status of the CBI front bumper?

Does this provide the coverage you need? I really like these and will hopefully head down to see them in person when I pick up my aluminum skids Chris is building for me. I am so close to putting my down payment down...more pics on Hefty Fab's facebook page.

Schrockworks requires no cutting of the existing bumper. If you have damage in the upper grill, you can easily replace your grill with a Grillcraft.

I'm surprised everyone is so eager to jump on the Aluminum bandwagon here when there isn't proper engineering being done on these bumpers.

neither Hefty nor Pelfrybilt have addressed the fact that they use aluminum in their D-shackle mounts, or that there is no steel super structure behind the aluminum shell.

its all fine and dandy to use aluminum, i support it whole heartedly - as a shell. aluminums number of stress cycles it can endure is severely limited compared to steel. people that regularly use their front shackles for recovery or put their vehicles in heavy articulation frequently will eventually see stress fractures. not to mention, the sheer strength of non-aircraft grade aluminum like these bumpers are made from is no where near adequate for angled recovery or the use of snatchblocks.

thats great that they're pioneering the 4Runner market for aluminum, but without a steel superstructure underneath that serves as a front crossmember, winch plate and recovery point - these bumpers have a shelf life.

It'll cover up most of it, and I really like the look, but they don't have a 2011 version yet :(

Nice! With a Grillcraft repairing the upper grill, that only leaves a minor ding in the upper bumper plus the lower bumper. Now a the SSS hybrid is back in the picture.

What about it, [MENTION=110183]SouthernSS[/MENTION]? How's that 2010-2013 bumper layout coming along? Any plans for a group buy to kick off sales? :madgrin:

Actually Hefty does address it...they make the bumper in steel as well! :nod:
