front diff noise

OK...still trying to figure this out. When in 2wd, exactly what is turning in the front diff besides the axle shafts, shaft bearings and spider gears? I still have a howling noise I can't seem to get rid of. Just replaced driver side axle needle bearing with a ECGS bushing and a new cv axle. Still have noise. No metal in fluid. Any ideas?

Your drivers side axle is always spinning spider gears and the passenger side just has the axle spinning

It's on acceleration, deceleration, 2wd, 4wd except when all 4 are off the ground, then only in 4wd. Since I can't see it while driving, do you suppose the front driveshaft is turning because of centrifugal energy and I'm hearing a pinion bearing?
