Front Door 6x9's With or Without Separates?

I've searched as many posts here as I can and I'm more confused now that before I started. I have a '07 Sport with NON JBL radio. I plan to replace it with a Kenwood DDX470 head unit and want to replace all the speakers as well. I would like to go with 6x9's in the front, but I'm confused about which way to go.

Option 1:
Go with regular 6x9's (no separate tweeters) and leave the stock tweeters connected.

Option 2:
Go with regular 6x9's and remove the stock tweeters. Not sure how to wire this using the stock speaker wiring so that the highs get routed to the new speaker.

Option 3:
Go with 6x9 components and replace both stock speakers. This is a little harder, as there aren't many of these available.

Option 4:
Go with regular 6x9's and buy a set of tweeters to replace the stock tweeters. The guy as Crutchfield said that this would give me too much treble because the 6x9's already have a tweeter in them.

When I say 'regular 6x9', I mean a 2-way or 3-way like the Kicker KS693.

Any help is appreciated.

Just curious - why do you want to stick with 6x9's? I wouldn't mix stock tweeters with 2 or 3 way speakers. IMO you should stick with components - whether that's 6x9's or 6.5's. If you really want to stick with 6x9's, you're right, there aren't many options. Personally, I would go with the HAT Imagine series.

If you check the diymobileaudio classifieds they pop up from time to time for about half the price of a new set. So that's a good option if you're patient.

i'd go with option 4: 6 1/2" components. if your going to upgrade, might as well upgrade to some quality speakers that you wont be replacing ever again.

you will get better bass from the 6.5, with less distortion, and better durability. the 6x9 irregular cone shape is less rigid than the round cone on a 6.5.

I have alpine 3 way 6x9 + 1" audiobahn tweeters with the stock crossovers and i think it sounds great. The tweeters being at a higher level really make the sound sound like its coming at ear level, not from below you.

I don't know if I agree with this logic. DO you have anything that supports it? Not saying you're wrong, I'd just like to hear a comparison or something. My 6x9's definitely put out more bass than my 6.5s. but not as much as my sub :jump:

But now, I'm not sure about this due to the stock speaker wiring. I had thought that there was a stock crossover that I could use, but now I'm not so sure. I'm reading something about the stock tweeter just uses a built in bass blocker. I'm worried that if I just connect the new speakers to the stock wiring, it won't sound right.

Anyone have experience with this? I might be overthinking this thing!

On my phone now will respond to PM in detail later. But short answer is there's a crossover in the front an a bass blocker. It sounds good.

I don't have the JBL system, so I'm wondering if the crossovers are there. I guess I'll have to pull the door panels to confirm.

yes cone area plays a big part, but theres more to it than just cone area. if you've noticed, theres not a big aftermarket for 6x9 speakers. they're not very popular. a quality 6 1/2 will sound way better than a quality 6x9. I've tried it many times before.
