Front end locking up in snow??

I just recently purchased a 2001 4runner SR5. I haven't had any issues besides my front end locking in snow while im in 4wd. It locks up in the front end when im in 2wd whenever its raining or the roads are salty. My only concern is that when it locks up the slippery road sign comes on and it doesn't accelerate when I press the gas. When it locks up its sounds like a really bad grinding noise.

Does anybody know why im locking up and how can I fix this?

Sounds like your ABS. If you are in constant weather and conditions like this, you might consider disabling it.

Thanks man, that kind of seems what it looks like. My abs light doesn't come on when ever I start to slide.
