Front End Shimmy After Bearing Install (+ Where Does This Part Go?)

I’m interested also as I have the same thing going on. I have replaced the front wheel bearings and the axles (which needed replacing anyway) as well as all the brake parts but still have the noise.

they don't look too bad. the reason I asked to see them, is sometimes if an aggressive tread is worn badly, it can make a noise similar to what you were describing.

Sounds like you may have slightly bent one of the dust shields during re install. Make sure they’re not touching the rotors. If it is, just bend it back. Good place to start checking.

Well, there was a serious & embarrassing flaw in my logic: when the noise started has nothing to do with the cause. That occurred to me & I finally had a chance to check today. Guess what? Bent passenger side dust shield. :doh:

Glad you found the source! I haven’t tracked mine down yet and was assuming it was the bearings. I need to replace the driver's side dust shield anyway due to rust, so I was planning to just replace the bearings since it needs to come apart anyway...

Well, there was a serious & embarrassing flaw in my logic: when the noise started has nothing to do with the cause. That occurred to me & I finally had a chance to check today. Guess what? Bent passenger side dust shield. :doh:

Not as fixed as I thought it seems...noise is much better but still there right at 40mph. Wondering if the shields are getting bent when I reinstall the wheels.

I do know that some wheel bearings, most of the ones I've done on various vehicles, do NOT come packed with grease. Do you know if it was pre packed or did you pack it before install?
Dry bearings, even new, can give an odd sound at certain frequencies/rpm.
Hopefully you get it figured out.

The front wheel bearings are a sealed bearing, no need to grease them, couldn't grease them even if you wanted too.

Don't rule out rear bearings. I swore my fronts were bad when i purchased my vehicle and the dealership replaced a rear under warranty and it fixed a rear left when I swore it was a front left.

Just to add about the knuckle seals: I cut a 2x4 into a circular shape that fits on the inside so I could tap it in with a hammer. Super easy.
