Front leather fix - options...

Besides finding a needle in a haystack I have found these 2 as the best options.

1. New leather seat covers 1999 2000 2002 Toyota 4Runner Tan Leather Seat Covers 1 Back Rest and 1 Bottom | eBay

2. These appear to be the same but fake leather and cheaper Toyota 4Runner Naugahyde Seat Cover 1996 1997 1998 1999 2000 2001 Back Rest Tan | eBay

Anyone have experience with any of these?

I'm buying a new runner as soon as I find one that fits my preferences and chances are the front seats are shot so I'm trying to figure out how much I'll need to spend to fix it.

I'd look into some junkyards, you'd be surprised at how good the condition of some seats are

The first option in your post is $400 you can buy 2 great condition seats for that price from a junk yard like stated above.

Also, keep in mind that other seats will bolt up to the brackets in our 4runners. Look at other toyota models for front seat options too. I know there are a few more that also bolt on and everything else can be fabricated to work. Do your research, just picked up a set of seats out of a 96 subaru legacy for a friends 4runner that will bolt in with minor bending to the front brackets.

There's a full used set (front and back) seats on ebay. The guy is asking 570.00 but will take 450.00. He's in the Minneapolis area.

I have a set of fronts being made, he is pricey, but well known in the salt lake city custom car circuit, and I wanted new clean covers. Spend a lot of time in seats, and since I do not wear other peoples sweaty underwear, I want new seat covers.

Of course for the price, I could have bought a set of riding leathers...

I will do pictures, and maybe a video, on my build page of the re-upholstery process. If you have not done it before, you will see it is relatively easy.

BTW,

Whatever you do - replace the foam (with genuine Toyota) as well.

I used the guys in your first link for a seat bottom last year after I had read some positive reviews on this forum (upholsteryguys). My seat bottom was pretty much ripped to shreds. I have had it installed for over a year now and it feels and looks great! I had it installed at a local upholstery shop for $75. It is definitely OEM quality!! Here is a pic of it now, after 15k miles of seat time. The blue hue you see on the sides is from my FRC work pants. The discoloration from my pants gives it a distressed look in the pics. The leather is smooth and supple though.

Looks good though! I'm really interested to see if anyone has used the second option I posted. It appears to be an oem style cover replacement but not in leather.

I don't know about that one. It is from a different seller. I paid $210 for just the bottom...it was worth it in my opinion!

Looks like the 2nd choice is the "back only" @ $150.00, I would go with the leather or choice 1

I have worked for several dealerships, and we used to subcontract aftermarket leather to a company called Classic Soft Trim. Full set ran probably $650 or so for us, so you might be looking at around half that for just the front. It looks like the company has locations in other states, you might check and see if there's a local one to you, and just have them get the leather and install it for you.
