Front or Rear? Which tires wear faster?

There's so many variables... Alignment, driving style, maint (tire pressure), where you drive, how much of the time do you use 4wd can all influence which wear quicker.

I am an easy driver (acceleration and braking) with a good alignment and my fronts seem to wear a tiny bit quicker than the rears. It makes sense to me... The fronts carry more weight, do most of the stopping and they steer the vehicle so unless you're a lead foot your fronts probably work harder.

Regular rotation keeps mine very even and nice.

That's what I was thinking. The steering plus the weight would cause more wear on the fronts. When I bought my 4Runner the rears were more worn out, so I think the dealership might have rotated them that way to even them out.

Generally speaking, the outside (and/or inside) of the front tires wear faster due to tire angle when turning.

On the same note, the center of the rear tires generally wear faster due to overinflation.

This is only a generalization, but it's what I've noticed over the years of vehicle maintenance. This is why regular rotation is key for long tire life.

Front tires will always wear out faster then rear. Unless you burning rubber :zoom: or spinning donuts.

Rotate the tires...
