Front Runner full length roof rack. First production run rack install.

Drilling holes in the roof would concern me because of the amount of rust we get here in Hawaii being so close to the ocean. I guess you could do things to inhibit that, but not sure if the risk is worth the reward. I currently have the extended FrontRunner but I have always had the idea of a full-length in mind.

Yea I really wish no drilling was required... I even asked them, Bryan said it's required and it will void the warranty if it's not drilled.

The prinsu also requires drilling... I called as well to see if tge front attachment poit's could rest like the baja, and answer was no.... I understand the rationale, but thought that one one piece design (as opposed to the earlier track method) would be more solid.

Slap a good bit of RTV on it after you are done drilling and rust is under control.

I don't really understand what your asking. If the truck flips over you have the roof and all of its structure still there. I think you guys are jut thinking about this too much.

They designed it being secured to the front with fasteners so the rack is solid. If you have something heavy on the front and hit a bump, nothing is affected like others racks that have a compression foot.

They wanted a solid rack that mounts solid to the vehicle. Goal acheaved.

Im not concerned about the rack structure and security. I'm concerned about the roof support, or lack there of, in a case of a roll over.

With this install you're drilling into non-load-bearing sheet metal. Crash safety won't be impacted by this.

Front Runner Full Length Rack - Two Thumbs Up!

Ordered my Frontrunner full length from Apex Overland during Black Friday and received 4 days later. My setup is similar to Apex's-RTT and awning. I too stalled and researched for weeks how to avoid drilling the front set of holes but in the end I decided-Frontrunner builds more racks than I do and strength, style and purpose of this vehicle specific rack is the reason I chose FR-so I drilled four holes after measuring three times and aligning the rails with the OEM contact points-Take in consideration the opening of the rear hatch door! If you have rivnut nursert tool probably better. I used a DIY version from YouTube and it worked well but would have been easier with tool I'm sure. CONSIDER THIS-instructions state to use a 11.5mm drill bit-I did my first hole and the rivnut nutsert spun! What a pain. The remaining three holes I used a brand new cobalt 10.9mm drill bit and had better fitment results. Make a guide so your 6" drill bit doesn't push right thru the headliner into your cabin! If it happens-put a morale patch over the hole! RTV the newly made holes/rivnut/nutserts and I'm a happy camper. Love this rack. Super stout, modular and well engineered. Take your time, read the directions and test fit before committing you won't be disappointed in this low profile, super stout, adapt to anything rack.

I'm at the stage where the 11.5mm holes are drilled, but I can't for the life of me get the M8 Rivnuts to set. I have the right tool but they just won't compress no matter how hard I try. Did you have any trouble with the rivnuts?

Read above. Can't speak first hand, but better to start off small, then enlarge as need be. I'll be attempting this install in the next few days.

I never used the tool. Just a socket head cap screw a nut some washers an 18volt Impact drill and an open end wrench. Takes seconds and you can feel when it is setting by moving the wrench.
