Front wheel bearing seal

I re-booted my driver side CV this weekend and in the process of removing and replacing the outer shaft of the cv into the knuckle I chooched up a seal. As far as I can tell it's #10 in this schematic. P/N 43442-35060.

In the schematic it appears the seal is between the backing plate and the bearing. When the CV is pulled from the knuckle you can see the seal I messed up. It's black and has a rubber lip with spring to hold it tight. I broke the spring and took a piece out of the lip. Looking inside of the knuckle you can see the ABS sensor.

Does anyone have experience with this seal? I can't find write ups or even a picture online. The schematic is from Camelback and the only schematic that best shows what I'm looking for but I'm not for certain, hence the post.

Everything went together fine and is noise free but I wonder what the long term issues will be without a seal? I know it's there for a reason but it's way tucked in there.

Thanks in advanced.

Pretty common seal to replace when doing a CV. Its just a snug fit in the back of the knuckle. Pull it out, carefully tap new one in and put some grease on it. Slip the CV back on.

I use this one, cheaper than dealer and just as good.
National 710573 Oil Seal

Great thanks. You called it an oil seal but you meant dust seal right? There is no oil on the knuckle side.

The only common seal I read about and replaced was the one on the diff side which I did.

I'll look into getting this part. Glad to hear it's fit into the backside of the knuckle.

Actually, it is a grease seal, but it works just like an oil seal. It is there to keep dirt and moisture from getting into the wheel bearings inside the hub. You should replace it.

I think you're actually looking for 9031672001 which is on the INSIDE of the knuckle/spindle.

#10 that you have listed above is part of the wheel bearing assembly install and is on the OUTSIDE of the knuckle/spindle.

The seal part number that I just gave simply presses into the back of the knuckle and is commonly damaged when pulling CV shafts. I don't think I've ever saved one so I just buy a few from partsouq to have on hand. Another trick I just found out is that the axle nut dust cap from you outside is supposed to sit nicely into that seal to help drive it in straight. Also make sure you remove any old garter springs apparently I had an extra riding along in there for the last 40k miles that I failed to remove at last replacement.

That looks like the one. Thank you. Something about the schematic made me doubt the one I was looking for. I realized I had messed the seal up when I found pieces of the garter spring.

I'm in the midst of a front bearing replacement, and wondering if this 93316-72001 is installed from the bearing side? Is there an updated part # as the old one is no longer available at Toyota. Do I just remove the abs sensor and install from the bearing side? Does the cv have to come out? Should I remove the abs wire, or just unscrew the sensor?

Also, I'm confused because the toyota dealer shows 90316-A0001 as the same part as 90316-72001, but looking these parts online, they look different. I gotta gethis rig back in service for my wife, but don't want tht new bearing to get boogered due to my inexperience.

Thank you

Is it this part in the pic below? That one in my pic is PN 90316-A0001 that you mentioned. There is also a national seal PN for this as well that comes out a few bucks cheaper and I've used in the past. If you enter that PN into any parts store website, the aftermarket ones will come up. IMO, not a fancy seal that you absolutely need OEM for, but doesn't hurt of course

I have a lil writeup where I go over stuff on replacing it here: CV Replacement Tutorial with New Seals (120+ Pictures)

Thanks for the reply y=... No, I don't think so. That looks to be on the inner CV. My seal is in the steering knuckle. It would be visible once you pull out the bearing assembly. See photo. I found a garter spring which must've come from that seal, and I don't want to be replacing this bearing anytime soon since I bought OEM from Blue Pit

I see from your tutorial that there is a seal on the outside (which I believe would be considered inside) of the steering knuckle. I'm hoping that isn't the culprit as I don't have alot of confidence removing the CV. Is there another seal behind the one A0001 which is replaced from the bearing side of the knuckle? I also note that you did the CV removing the bearing. Perhaps I should reassemble, and deal with the seal at another time, but that is probably the wrong idea.

Here you can see the nasty condition of the bearing, and the garter spring found behind the bearing assembly. I don't think this could be from the bearing, so I assume it's the from the dust seal.

The O ring goes on the piece of the wheel bearing that fits inside the knuckle if I remember correctly. The garter spring is from that seal that I posted.

You don't need to remove the CV. that seal I had a hard time with is on the diff side. You won't need to touch that at all or pull the CV.

Is there another seal behind the one A0001 which is replaced from the bearing side of the knuckle?

There is a little seal on the end of the CV, but it doesn't have a garter spring on it. Not sure on its PN as I reused it, but I think my buddy has it and I can check on that. That seal on the end of the CV is really on there, and it looks like yours is in tact. That garter spring has to come from the seal that fits into the back of the knuckle on the CV side of the wheel bearing (The one I showed in pics above).

Almost all of the little parts shown in that manual drawing above are subparts to the bearing assembly, so if you buy the unit bearing as a whole, you don't need to deal with them.

So your sandwich of parts should be: CV with little seal on the end, Knuckle seal 90316-A0001 complete with garter spring, knuckle itself, bearing w/ oring, CV nut and goodies

Threw some labels on there

grabbed some pics off my spare wheel bearing for o-ring placement

I'm wondering if there are two pieces to the inner dust seal?

Front wheel bearing seal question

90316-A0001 & 43442-35060 as shown in the link above. Part #2

yes there are two pieces, but one of the pieces is press fit onto the end of the CV, and I doubt it fell off. its the one labeled "seal" in the below pic. Those babies get stuck on there.

I did an edit on my prior post, so you might not have seen it.

its this piece

Thanks y=mx+b... I missed your response last night after midnight RMT. Now looking at your labels on the pic, I agree that it's the seal on the knuckle. I do have the bearing / hub assembly, and it came the o-ring already installed. Looking at other threads on the forum regarding seal A0001's replacement, it appears that I could avoid removing the CV, but would need to remove the knuckle. I don't believe I boogered the seal. I'm betting it's failure was part of the cause of the bearing failure. This has turned out to be much more than the simple replacement most of the videos describe. Bummer
