Front wheel bearings shot after 1 month.

I don’t see a problem in removing the old bearing with hammer.... everything else is getting pressed back in. But I agree. Tighten them to 218 is a cover up.

So you're able to press new bearing in along with pressing in the spindle, and pressing out the spindle? If you're doing that much press work already why can't you press out the old bearing?

I personally wouldn't pound a bearing out with hammer. A press will greatly reduce the amount of stress the cast spindle will see from the hammer. I guess the real question is how are you hammering this out?

I like to share my story about wheel bearings.

This is for a Hilux LN 106 1990 4x4 rear axle.

I bought OEM toyota bearings and drove into the axle. The guy who did this showed another job he was doing and it has some Japanese bearings. He spun the dust shield/backing plate on both, and the Hilux axle spun freely while the other axle which got one of the Japanese bearing was pretty tight.

Stay with OEM specially with major components.

Hub on vice. Hammer on hub. And another hammer to hit the hammer. Slowly it comes out.

Wow! With all that pounding from a hammer I'm shocked you only have a bearing issue. I would check to see if you still have a true hub, and see if you have any damage to the surface the bearing mates to.

I would also recommend taking this to a shop to have it pressed in. I understand wanting to fix things on your own, but there is much better way to do this.

I mean we do use a press to press it in lol. But I understand what your saying. And I agree. It’s time to change the method.

I put bearings and hub in the freezer and heat up the knuckle until the moisture that collects just burns off. Then I press the frozen bearing into the knuckle. Then I support the inner race with a pipe or socket and press the frozen hub into the bearing.

We seem to have fixed the problem. I agree with everyone. That smashing the hub out from the bearing is not a good method. This waffled the end of it slightly which wasn’t allowed the axle to fully sit inside and thus not allowing proper torque on the bearing. So we grinding the hub out a little. Re torqued it and it’s tight. No play. Will drive around for a while and double check again. But that seems like the issue. The bearings don’t seem like that got messed up. They don’t make any noise. You live and you learn.
