howdy i have 97 4x4 runner. Im redoing the front end. I was able to find most of parts to the job but who knows where I can get wheel bearings? reading about them they sealed plus need to be passed out and in. toyota does not make them anymore or sells them anymore? it's only 20 years old?:crybaby:

It looks like RockAuto.com lists front wheel bearings. If I were you I'd go to Napa or wherever and ask if they can order a Timken brand or Beck Arnley brand front bearing so you can compare it to your original one. Don't get SKF; at work we get a ton of issues with their bearings, not as many on their seals though.

I got OEMs last January. If I were to buy again, I would just get Timkens from rockauto because they're cheaper and are the original equipment for Tacomas built in the US vs Koyo for Japanese built 4Runners. SHould be good enough lol

I had my driver side front wheel bearing on my '99 start making some noise last summer. Had the local toyota dealer do the job.
They swapped in a new wheel bearing and hub on both sides. In hindsight, I would have yanked the spindles and just had them press the old bearing out and the new one in and saved money, but at the time I needed the car to keep running asap.
I had both swapped as I figured they had both seen the same mileage (~208k at the time) and if one was going, the other might follow shortly after.
I just ordered the parts through the dealers parts desk.

Slightly off Topic, but looking at my spare spindles (that I've STILL not done the bearing pressing on, attached gusset too and POR15'd) I noticed that the ABS rings can be turned independently to the hub (I've been slowly soaking them with WD-40 when ever I go past to make it easier).
Has anyone else noticed this? It's pretty alarming, and if that's a "thing" it could explain why our ABS craps itself when you are braking and hit a bump.
Edit: further research shows its *probably* purely because the hub nut isn't torqued up.

Yep, you answered your own question. The ABS ring just pulls out by hand on the front hubs.
I have replaced several hubs and the Timken is the best longest lasting .
hopefully today it is still the same quality since things change all the time.

You also will need the large retaining clip if you press everything apart like I did in my write up. You dont need to replace the hub.

I just did my front and rear axle bearings.... I got all my parts from http://toyotapartsguru.com/ the bearings have a long lead time, just heads up.
Unless you have a heavy press I would not attempt swapping the bearings yourself.
I took my front knuckles off and my rear axles off and brought them to the stealership with the parts. All they did was press the old bearings off and the new bearings on... and they charged me $350 for all 4.
I can not stress enough ONLY USE TOYOTA OEM PARTS!!!

If you have not replaced UBJ and LBJ I would go ahead and do this as well, with your knuckles off might as well.
