Front wheel removal help?

Now I have removed a lot of wheels during my life but for some reason I'm not sure why the front wheels on my 2000 Limited will not come off? Any thoughts, is it just stuck/rusted on and needs a good smack and pull?

I have never taken wheels off of a 4runner before, so I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything? All the lugs are off and it's jacked in the air, so it should just fall right off.....right???

Support the rig with jack stands. You may need to lay down and kick the back side of the tire with your heal. This can be done by turning the wheel outward and while lying down, not actually be under the rig (laying in front of the bumper). (just in case you shake it off the jack stands)

The 4runner's wheels are hub centric. This means that the wheel is centered by the hub and is snug. Rust/corrosion must have built up since you removed them last. After you get them off, take a wire brush to the hubs. A light coat of anti-seize (grease will work too) around the hub will minimize future sticking.

If you still can't get it off after trying to kick/hit it, put the lugs back on but leave them a little loose. In the driveway, move back and fourth hitting the brakes to jar the wheel loose. Worked for me.

had the same issue on my wife's 2006 4runner. Pennsylvania road salt doing a job there.

support the truck securely and hit the rim from behind with a rubber mallet a zillion times until it comes loose. it will.

and then use anti-seize when you put it back on.

here's what it looked like just trying to do a simple tire rotation. supported in multiple areas since 2 wheels needed to come off.

and the reason why the wheels would not come off...

Heh...wait until you get to the drums and rotors. Those are even more fun. Mine are now all liberally baptized with anti-seize (except the lugs) so I know all are coming off easy in the future. Wheels were never a problem since they got anti-seize at the first tire rotation.

Just kick it, eventually it will come off, only time it was sketchy for me to keep was using a scissor jack that jacked up the rocker on my jetta, kicking the tire with that holding it was sketchy.

I'm sure you've figured out how to get it off by now. The important thing to remember is Gerdo's advice to use some anti-seize. A nice thin film will help tremendously.

On steel wheels, it's almost a must-do item, or they will never come off. Alloy wheels will go longer before seizing, but they'll still seize up in a road salt environment. Hence, anti-seize! :)
