Frontrunner Tepui

Does anyone have a Tepui Tent mounted to their Frontrunner slimline II? If so did you have to buy the tent mount kit from FR or was the hardware that came with the tent enough?

The included metal plates will work if the tent rails are mounted from side to side, but you’ll need longer bolts from the hardware store. Pretty sure you’d need longer mounting plates if the rails are front to back.. or just swap the rail orientation on the bottom of the tent.

Edit: see page 3 of my build.

Honestly if you aren’t going to mount it semi-permanently the Frontrunner quick release mounts are well worth the $ IMO. I personally would not have a RTT without those mounts.

I was told by someone in the know that Front Runner was no longer selling the QR mounts because they were prone to opening inadvertently. They have them listed as "Out of Stock" on their site and i don't think they'll be getting anymore.... from what I was told.

When did you buy yours and how are they holding up?

I'm in the same boat. Trying to decide if I should put my Tepui RTT on the factory rails while I save up for either a Frontrunner or the Eezi awn k9 or just wait until I get a full rack. I'm not sure if I'll need any additional brackets or how much of a pain it will be to swap everything once I get a rack.

Exceptionally well. Bought them last summer when we got our tent. I’ve probably driven over 6k miles with the tent mounted on the roof with them and have had no issues. I also put TSA locks on through the holes that they have and that would likely solve any issues. We just recently transferred the tent over to a trailer, but I would buy them again in a heartbeat.

It says sold out but it looks like they updated the design with integrated locks to take care of any issues that you mentioned. If you have questions I recommend calling them, they have outstanding customer service and were very knowledgeable every time I spoke with them about my setup.

Link in case people are curious about what we are speaking of.

If you have a need for it just go ahead and mount it to the factory rack. I've installed/uninstalled mine so many times I could't even estimate how many times. It's not hard, definitely kind of a pain, but so long as you have a buddy help it's fine. Factory Tepui hardware will work with the factory roof rails running lengthwise of the vehicle.

That said, FrontRunner ships really fast, you could have your new rack next week if you wanted. Up to you!

That's good to know. I also live really close to the Equipt warehouse. I haven't really sold my wife on spending 1300 dollars on a rack though yet haha. She has given me to approval to fabricate one myself so maybe I will also look into that option.

I couldn't agree more, it takes hours to take the tent off without these quick release mounts. My trouble is, I can't seem to find them anywhere!

You wont be able to mount the tent directly to your slimline II rack with the hardware from tepui. You will need the mount from frontrunner. Once the mounts are on its actually not tooooo bad mounting the tent. Its 4 bolts versus 8 bolts when using the clamp down style system.

My front runner quick release set up works awesome. I’ve the CVT Mt Ranier expedition. It’s heavy, and zero issues thus far. The rack itself is fantastic. Super solid.
