Background:
I bought my 4Runner back in 2016 from the original owner. Before my ownership, the vehicle was used as a personal fleet rig in a Southern Californian construction business. It was primarily serviced at a Toyota dealership until I bought it, and started doing the maintenance myself with OEM parts when applicable. I used this vehicle for my DD / weekend camping warier over the years and it has been great. I had plans to add a super charger, and tow my AE86 track vehicle with it…Nonetheless, plans changed and I no longer use the 4Runner. I kept the vehicle primarily stock, except for a cold air intake and the slightly larger tires. I thought I would never sell this beauty…
Maintenance:
As I mentioned earlier, the 4Runner was mainly serviced throughout its life at a Toyota Dealership before my ownership. You can look up the vin via the Toyota website for more info. I have kept the maintenance records since I bought it and some records from Toyota Dealer. The list is as follows:
227,102 – (Me) Oil Change, Oil Filter.
223,018 – (Me) Oil Change, Oil Filter, New Goodyear Duratracs (265/75/r16).
220,355 – (Dealer/Me) Oil Change, Oil Filter. Took to dealer because I couldn’t find out why the car was throwing a (P1300) code. Dealer couldn’t replicate code (go figure) and suggest I change ignitor. I replaced ignitor with junk yard one and code hasn’t come back.

How does it run, drive, startup, etc.?
For a 20+ year old vehicle, I would not hesitate to drive it across country. It starts right up every time, drives smooth, shifts well, doesn't burn oil, etc. You will see in the pictures that I replaced the original wheels with 3rd gen 5 star wheels. I wanted the 4Runner to keep a stock look to it.
Concerns:
Well, it is a 20 + year old car. It does have some things that I wanted to fix eventually…
- Clear coat on roof and back hatch has seen better days.
- Paint has scratch marks throughout from brush on unmanaged forest service roads (could buff out possibly).
- Clutch slave had slight leak years ago, but stopped leaking (New OEM clutch slave that will come with sale).
- Oil residue from previous valve cover leak on exhaust manifold heat shield.
- Clutch chirping when cold ( After at running temp it is fine). It is original clutch and needs to be replaced anyway.
- Non E-Locker (I have a OEM 4:10 E-Locker for sale).
- Inner tie rods will need to be replaced soonish. (New OEM rack and pinion, but high-pressure line threads are damaged…could fix the threads… will come with sale).
- “Low level” gas light flickers randomly. Gas gauge works perfectly, just the light illuminates at any fuel level. I didn’t want to drop the gas tank to fix sensor short.
Overall, this was a great vehicle with many memories. Pictures down below in link.
