So I was in Houston yesterday and bought this OEM Black Sport hood on Airline. The guy at the salvage yard was extremely difficult to deal with, but I was finally able to work something out with him. At one point we had a deal and then he changed his mind and raised the price again!

This OEM Sport hood is complete. I'll clean it up and take some better photos when I have time. The price on this hood is $345.

This hood had a lexan screen on the front and those chrome looking vinyl guards on 3 sides. I've already removed them, but I was just thinking how much protection this gave the hood. There is a little bit of adhesive along the edges that you will be able to see in the photos, but it comes off when you rub your fingers across it. After removal there is no damage to the paint - once you pull them off there is no evidence that they were even there.

The green Sport hood I picked up in Houston sold in 15 minutes. The silver hood for $395 took almost 3 weeks. If you want a Black OEM Sport hood don't wait. These are very rare and Toyota isn't making any more of them. This is the first Black OEM Sport hood that I've ever seen in a salvage yard or advertised for sale anywhere.

The "points" near the windshield and the front corners are in perfect condition - not bent. This hood was removed from a 1999 4Runner and placed in the back of my 4Runner on a furniture pad. When I unloaded it from my 4Runner I placed the "points" on dish towels so they wouldn't touch the tile floor.

The underside is in excellent condition. Everything is there including the heat shield, underside attachments for the scoop insert, a legible VIN #, TOYOTA stamped in the steel, two factory instructional stickers, and the clips for the washer fluid line. All 11 plastic/rubber discs that hold the heat shield are there.

I realize that this price is not exactly cheap, but please keep these things in mind when you are evaluating this purchase:
- You can buy a cheaply made aftermarket hood for $150, add the Toyota scoop insert and other extras for $150, and then paint match and blend into the fenders and you would be over $500 with a reputable paint shop, plus you wouldn't have an OEM hood.
- I bought my Stellar Blue Sport hood from Long Beach, CA for $300, paid fellow forum member Brent $150 to box, crate and transport the hood to be shipped, then I paid Greyhound $141 to ship it, and finally I paid a guy $50 to buff out most of the paint imperfections. I'm in mine for over $600 and I still think that it was worth it.
- This hood makes perfect sense for a highly detail-oriented 4Runner owner who will install this hood and transform his 4Runner. For someone less particular this hood might not be worth the price.

I can drive one hour in any direction from B-CS to meet someone. I am in Houston on some Saturdays, so if I am going to be in Houston anyway I can bring this hood with me and meet you there.

This guy loved the chrome-looking vinyl guards... luckily they came off easily.

This is the vehicle it came off of. This 4Runner is "fresh" and has only been at the salvage yard for about two weeks.

So I had some work to do at my real job Sunday (I usually don't work on Sunday at my real job, but this was an exception). Anyway, I was supposed to be at work at 12:00 Noon, but I went 30 minutes early to post the official for sale thread for this hood. I am 2 blocks from where I work and I see this Black 3rd Gen headed in the opposite direction. It has a bunch of mods including some red TRD badges. I'm thinking that this guy definitely needs a Sport hood if he doesn't already have one (I wasn't sure, maybe he had one - I may have missed it).

Anyway, at the risk of looking like a lunatic stalker I do a 180 and follow him. He pulls into a nice student apartment property and is waiting for the automatic gate. I start talking to him and he is very interested. I tell him that I have a Black Sport hood at my apartment and show him the photos. This guy, Jared, says that he has been looking for a Sport hood for 2 years, but can't find one. He can't believe that I found him and we exchange numbers.

So I head to work and post this thread just in case Jared decides not to buy it. About 4 hours after I post the thread he buys the hood. Here are some photos of his Runner. As you can see he has done a real nice job with it. He said that he goes by "Ginger" something on here, but he gave me permission to post these photos. I told him that he should paint the scoop insert red... what do you think?
