You just went from having a ridiculously awesome 3rd gen, to the best 3rd gen ever. I think I'd cry if a V8 supercharged 3rd gen pulled up next to me haha

be careful... the rods in these 4.7 dont like boost. one of the reasons toyota stopped marketing this. in stock configuration it was ok at best, but even stock setups blew rods. the reason VVTI came out was a means to up the power to fill the gap of the SC, that and better emission. anyhow yeah keep this stock, do not try and up the boost unless you want to do a complete tear down and rebuild or buy a new motor.

There were two versions of the 2UZ, those made in USA and the Japanese ones. Forged vs cast rods, so it's not accurate to say that the failed rods on some USA-spec Tundras were the reason they discontinued the SC.

Yes, they actually do have different rods. Nothing has been proven about their strengths though- its all based off rumor. It has even been said different year 4Runners with the 2uz had different rods.
