Basically it's entirely possible that two different part numbers of rods exist for non-Japanese engines and Japanese engines; most likely it has more to do with suppliers than anything inherently different in them.
The best I can say from what I've looked into is that all 2UZ-FE rods are sintered & forged in construction. They are thinner than 1UZ-FE rods and that under specific instances of detonation, pining, load, and such when a 2UZ-FE is boosted they can bend or break. Everything else is lacking data/evidence to support one conclusion or another.
Bottom line, if you want a supercharger, it may not be a horrible idea to throw new rods in it and have the engine rebuilt while your at it so you can really get the most performance out of it.
