Have you used the rack yet and have you noticed any impact to the PC job? Premature wear, scratches, etc...

My fear is that this the rack will hit winter (snow) just about every weekend and if I see rust/scratches I want the option to re-coat. Tough to do that with PC and match the finish.

Don't get me wrong, I really like PC but not all PC jobs are equal. The best I have seen is probably from Shockworks. All others have scratched or dinged rather easily.

To be honest, I haven't used it at all yet. I plan on hauling a small tree up there in the next week or two. Later in Dec I have a trip planned to the slopes. But as for now, all I can say is it looks damn seksi on my truck. I'll definitely post follow-ups both positive and negative as I put the thing into action.

This is probably not what you want to hear, but both the rack and ladder are powdercoated, in black. The PC on the rack is semi-gloss and on the ladder, I'm not certain, but I'm guessing that it's a flat or satin sheen. I know Alex has it worked out with his powdercoater for semi-gloss only. To my knowledge the lack of choices was done to accommodate the cheapest possible cost for us, the buyers.

Perhaps you can give gobi a call when you purchase the ladder? I know they customize their roof racks to order. If they don't mass produce and stock these things, perhaps they'll customize your ladder paint. Another option is to get the rack w/out any paint and get the PC-ing done yourself locally. I'm fairly certain you won't be able to beat the price Alex has worked out. I've called around before and powdercoaters typically charge $75-100 / rim. I can hardly imagine what an entire rack is going to cost you.

How different is it? Well it's definitely noticeable. You will notice it most in the day time, or under a light, when one reflects more than the other. I have to admit it does bother me a little bit, but that being said, I do highly recommend PC-ing the rack. No dig on Alex's paint job, but PC-ing it really brings the rack to another level.

I'm gonna get my mine with paint. Then hopefully I can get the ladder to match.

Got my gobi ladder installed. For those of you worried about compatibility, here are pics of the rear liftgate fully articulated and the amount of clearance between the ladder and the rack.

No contact whatsoever. Also, keep in mind that Alex created the rack with slotted mounting holes so the entire rack can be shifted forward or back plus or minus 1/2". If you find that the ladder and rack are too close for your comfort then know that there's some play there for you to move the rack forward or back.

Thanks for the pic. I like the top bar and bottom bar offset on the rack. If there was no sharkfin cutout, there's no issue with the rack making contact with the antenna right?

Btw, matte finish on the paint or PC job would look best IMO.

Danny this is on West Camino Cielo (a FS road that runs from San Marcos Pass Hwy 154 to Gaviota along the mountain tops). It's a fun really pretty road that isn't hard at all but still a fun one. Goes right along sheer drop offs on either side of the mountain at times.

One of a few simple trails nearby. Emphasis on simple and few lol.

That pic of standing on top of it.. Is that with your feet on the supports or just on the expanded metal? If its just on the mesh that is impressive!

Well I didn't want to test the weight limit of the mesh so I did keep my feet to the crossbar supports and to the outside edges. My buddy Matt (the sitter and thinker) is smaller than me and when he sat on the floor there was some droop/sag to the rack, but nothing that concerned me.

I think for load carrying purposes it would be just fine, just maybe not for 6' full framed gentleman like myself.

Can someone post a couple pictures of the sharkfin cutout and antenna?

I'm not 100% in love with the rails contouring to the fin poking up. I understand the idea but I'm curious if it would be possible to have the upper rail continuous at the back end and then just have the cutout on the lower rail with the mesh right up to the cutout.

I'd like to get a better idea of what the rack looks like at the back end there. Maybe a side or back view that shows the XM antenna height relative to the rack floor and rails. And maybe a shot down on the antenna looking at the cutout profile.

Is there possibility to get removable side rails to accommodate a rooftop tent so it can mount as low as possible? Maybe the adjustable crossbar could then be used as a stop to section off the remaining part of the open rack.

I've got a lifted 2010 trail, and have a rooftop tent hoisted in my garage, but i need about 2" more clearance to get the truck out of the garage with it mounted. I think would get the job done.

I'd certainly be willing to pay extra for that option. Would that be an option you'd consider building?

Got the rack yesterday...

Didn't have time to install - which ended up being a good decision as I decided to change the paint last night to a flat black enamel. Came out great and will install tonight.

I just put everything back together on the rack and bolted everything up this morning...looks great and can't wait to install. Letting the paint cure a little longer. Will post pics later.

This version is definitely the "new" stealth model.

I need to call the shipping company today and check on my status, it'll be in today or early next week.

Nope...no need as I could see he only got one coat of the hammered stuff on there for me. The key is the etching primer...once that ties in with the first coat things should be good. The paint I did last night looks super clean...

Depending on how the shipping company handled things, you may want to paint yourself.

Alex was stating he is probably going to stop painting and only offer PC for folks at whatever that costs.
