FS: Low(er) miles 3rd gen in Dallas-$8500

EDIT: Just had a Carfax ran on my truck and found out that the previous owner swapped the gauge cluster. Last reported mileage was 240k back in 2013 right before I bought it. Brings the actual mileage to somewhere around 280k. That being said, I'm probably going to hold on to it for a little while longer until I figure out what I want to do.


I'm selling my 1999 Limited 4wd.
149k miles EDIT: Mileage unknown but is around 280k
Toytec/Bilstein front lift
7.5 wrap rear coils with land cruiser shocks
1.5'' body lift

Asking $6800 OBO, will negotiate

Yep. When I got the truck, the flares were really chipped up so I went with bedliner hoping it would hold up better against rock chips. It does pretty well but can be hard to clean.

No elocker. If I was keeping it, that would be the next mod. The only time I've gotten stuck, the elocker wouldn't have helped anyway lol.

pretty sure that is illegal and the PO can be held responsible..

basically took half the life off the truck off before selling it..

Yes, I would definitely look into the odometer swapping bit especially if he didn't disclose it in the sale of the vehicle which is apparent. That's a big no no.

Yeah, unfortunately I don't have the guys contact info or even name anymore. It carries jail time if not disclosed at sale that the mileage differs from the odometer. I'm just glad I found out before it sold, otherwise I'd end up with someone coming after me. Learn from my screw up and always run a vin check before purchasing.

Fortunately, these trucks still carry value even over a quarter million miles. If this happened to me on a domestic truck, the loss would be a lot worse lol.

For anyone interested in my 4Runner, I now have a copy of the Carfax (better late than never) and would be happy to share it.

I was looking at my old title to my 2001 and it says exempt on it (and I have actual miles). Then I was looking at transfer paperwork and it looks like they do not care if the car is over 10 yrs old.... Not sure if that means anything on you trying to sell. I am in the north Tx area. Maybe you can call the title office and ask. It might just mean something to the seller and not really to the tax office.

I knew that it was technically exempt, but I thought that if a seller is dishonest about the miles that it was still a crime no matter the age of the vehicle. Basically telling you it's worth more than it is. Definitely scammed me, I bought it for $5200 because of the "low" mileage. I wouldn't have paid that much for a stock quarter million mile 4Runner if I had known.

Unfortunately this happens a lot with older cars.. 10 years and older. No way to hold PO responsible. It's pretty screwed up but that's the way it goes. When I roll thru the junkyards you won't believe the amount of clusters missing from 3rd gens.

Try proving odometer rollback in a court of law.
