FSM help plz

The two online links in the FAQ thread are DOA. The .pdf download works, so I got that, but the reference links inside the document don't work. What I mean is there's all sorts of references to other sections, like see SA-28 for more info, and the SA-28 is a link that should take you right there, but it doesn't. So I have to manually scroll through a 2000+ page document to try and find stuff.

So if anyone knows of a working online link, or a functional .pdf, that would be great.

That might solve my other issue, but I'll ask anyway. I'm going to do the front and rear differential oil change and was looking for part numbers for the drain and fill plugs. Just going to be prepared in case I destroy the existing ones. After much interneting I have found those part numbers, but it would have been awesome to use the FSM for them.

Yeah, well that info is not readily apparent. When looking at the diagram for the front diff, for example, there is some sort of reference number next to the bolt. Looks like this 65 (660, 48). Reference to an index somewhere? No idea, but it's certainly not the part number. And if it's supposed to link to somewhere else that doesn't work.

So are part numbers included in the FSM somewhere? I would think so, but I have not yet found them.

The FSM doesn't include part numbers. You'll want new gaskets for the diff plugs but you shouldn't need new plugs unless yours are rusted away.

Hmm, annoying. So what is it that the parts guy pulls up on his computer? Looks like the same diagrams, but it gives you part numbers too. I thought that was the FSM he was using.

I live in the rust belt, PA, so yeah. The rear is rusted, and I've read the horror stories about the front with those hex bolts.

Looks like this 65 (660, 48) when you see this on any page, look at the very bottom left, it has the same box like and it explains the 'Torque Values' of that specific bolt, nut whatever....[N·m (kgf·cm, ft·lbf)] When you see this: [See page SA-37] it is a link. Do you have the 'Free' version of Adobe reader??? I 'think' the 'PRO' version would work for those links....:noidea: When you look at all the available Tools for this, Index, Search, Link...etc.... they all require the 'PRO Version'....

Camelback Toyota Parts System - this is a portion of the system that the dealership parts guys are looking at - it has drawings, part numbers and discounted OEM prices but doesn't have everything...

An independent reference.....very detailed listing but no drawings. Use the VIN entry if possible....

I don't think either one of these has the drain plug....you can call dealership and they will identify but best bet would be to obtain from a salvage yard or, better yet, don't hose up the one you are removing....

Rear diff crush washer: 12157-10010 (you'll want 2x for both filler and drain plugs)

With regard to the links not working in the FSM files.

The links in the .pdf FSM files will only work if the file names and directory structure in the FSM version you have match the file names and structure that Toyota used in their tech information system (which is where all these files originally came from.) If the person who downloaded the files from Toyota renamed them and rearranged the directories for better readability (likely), the links will be pointing to non-existent locations.

One thing to note is the letters/numbers in the link. For example "SA-153" means page 153 in the Suspension and Axle set of files. "AT-21" refers to page 21 in the Automatic Transmission section, etc. There will still be multiple files to check, but you don't have to randomly search the whole manual.

The PDF files are searchable as well, so if you have a good PDF search program, you can find things that way. A standard text search won't work from outside the file, however, since PDFs aren't text files.

There is a .iso version of that floating around but I'm pretty sure it for a 2002. The mechanical stuff still is the same. And that version is in html format. There was a member with a link to his gmail drive to download it. Be careful though I'm pretty sure Toyota doesn't want you sharing it.

Yeah, I went through those sites and a few others.

The frustrating part is when I searched any of those parts sites for "rear differential drain plug" I got nothing. Well, nothing useful. But once I finally discovered the part number and used that, they all had it. Even freaking Amazon has them. And they're called differential drain/fill plugs. But search for them by name and nada.

I just did my rear diff a few weeks ago. I'll update this post when I get home.

Thanks. The rears I found searching here in an old thread. The fronts were a bit harder, finally nailed them down on another board through a Google search.

If you need schematics - ??????-??????? ????????? Toyota/Lexus.. You should be able to see the drawings from US servers. You can also do parts and VIN lookup.

I find this particular site very helpful. It is looks similar to toyodiy

For toyodiy, you may have to access the site through proxy server. That's how I used to do it after the schematic diagrams were hidden.
