Fuel gauge help please.

I have been searching for a while but not finding my answer. I replaced the bulbs in my '99 gauge cluster with new LED bulbs which I already had in there (one went out). ... everything worked fine after I reassembled my dash back except the fuel gauge. I've been driving around and filled up on gas hoping it will correct itself. When I turn the 4runner on the needle will quickly jump (rather than gradually go up) well past full. When I turn the 4runner off it will gradually go back down to empty. No gas light on.

I have already tried to reset the gauge and tried to check the connections multiple times.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I’m fairly new here myself and to these vehicles. However, apparently the fuel gauges in these trucks have a tendency to die, or at least become sporadic. I let mine run out of fuel one day. Hasn’t worked correctly ever since. Apparently the printed circuit board that controls the gauge has a part that goes bad. It can be repaired. It has been discussed here, but I haven’t followed up on that aspect. I just know I get about 250 miles on a tank of gas.

Thanks Patrick. I've noticed that there are a good amount of posts about the fuel gauge. The other issues seem to be different than mine. Others fluctuate however mine spikes to past full. I'm just curious if I have something loose or I shorted something while changing the bulbs. It was working perfect before swapping them.
