Fuel Leak Help!!

1990 v6 4runner, does anyone know if there are fuel lines in side the frame itself???? My truck started leaking gas today on the passanger side behind the front wheel. After I turned it off and took the gas cap off to let out the pressure it slowly stopped. I did not see broken hoses around it and it appears to be comming out of the frame itself!!

AFAIK, it never goes into the frame (at least not original toyota...).
I'd guess that it's the fuel lines on top of the frame or somewhere at the right side of the engine near the firewall.

It can often be hard to spote 'em from the fuel lines, just look very throughly, I had a similar problem with my brakes once, couldn't find a leak, yet there was brake fluid all over the place, after alot of paintaking moments, I decided to retighten all the brake lines, and voila, there was one which I could barely see leaking...

Don't forget that it could be leaking up front and blowing back while you're driving, or running down a hose under the hood. Check under the hood too.

Just to be sure you have a 2nd gen right? With the wing windows? Just behind the inner fender wheel well cover there is a fuel line hook up. It is where the line from the tank connects to the line to the block it is a 2" long hex coupler (2 female ends) If that were to come loose it could leak from there. Mine was leaking from there before. It is a metal line with a compression flare nut if it is not tight enough fluids will leak through. I'd check there first. It looks something like this:

I wouldn't worry about anything behind there because there is no way it would leak onto the sway bar bushings unless you back your car in the driveway. Follow that line all the way up to the intake manifold and good luck finding the leak. I don't know how long that gas has been leaking but it can eat up the rubber on your sway bar bushing.

Yes there is a fuel line on the side of the frame but I highly doubt that it would be leaking. Check the fuel filter as well. Your best be would be clean it all off with an air hose. Then have a friend crank the car w/o starting it. That will preasurize the fuel system and create the leak again and hopefully you find it.


Careful when working with fuel. Wear safety glasses. I never do and I finally found a reason to. Gas in your eye hurts a little bit and washing it out after sucks. Tie a rag around your arm just before your elbow to stop it from leaking down your entire arm and soakin into your shirt. If you have it stick to your body on wet clothes or just leave it on the skin (wipping not rinsing) it can cause a chemical burn. When you fell it is very cool on the skin well that is the chemical burn if it is left there for a long period of time. You should wash for 5 mins under running water to fully clean the skin.
