Fuel Level Sensor - 1st / 2nd gen compatibility?

Apparently, I have a bad fuel level sensor in my '88. Its the sensor at the back of the tank that shows fuel level and the low fuel light. New ones are $200. Wondering if anybody has looked and seen if 2nd gen sensors are the same. I know they share alot of parts and there's tons of them in the yards. Thought I'd ask before going out to one and dropping the tank.

In the same boat. I put 10 gallons in an almost empty tank(gas light was on) and it pegged full and sits there even with the ignition off. Don't know the interchange on the part, but from what I've searched, the low fuel light will still come on even if the gauge doesn't read accurately.

if i were you id call up Joey at the 4RunnerHouse. its were i get all of my odd/expensive parts from. he parts out 1st,2nd, and 3rd gen runners and 1st gen tacos. he should have plenty of fuel sending units and anything else you could need, or he can get it for you.
