fuel pump bracket swap

I just got an 85 4runner that I am going thru. The plumbing coming out from the top of the fuel tank is badly deteriorated, held in part by sealant and luck. The truck came with a spare though:





As you can see the part has surface rust on it, how should I treat that (rust) If I do nothing, will it cause an issue and foul up the fuel system? is there a safe way to treat the rust that will not damage anything? Anyone else dealt with this?

Clean off the rust and hit it with that gas tank sealer stuff?

Get some spray on rust converter from Loctite or Permatex, sold at Lowes, NAPA, etc.
Follow the directions, several thin coats, until it turns black. The stuff works good.
Then paint with some paint that isn't affected by gas (not latex).

thanks for the input on this guys, not sure what type of finish top top coat the rust neutralizer with, wont the gas contact cause most paints to break down? it seems like the original metal was anodized. how about bead blasting to strip off the rust then reinstalling it? will the bare metal rust in the tank when in contact with gas?? as long as no water is present?

I'm thinking that whatever the original coating was, if it didn't help against corrosion, bare metal has even less chance. Maybe soak samples of some options in gas a bit to see what happens.

I forgot to mention that this part was removed from a parted out truck by the PO. It was stored outside cupped part facing up to hold water. The trucks PO lived at the Jersey shore with the salt in the air as well!
