Fuel Pump / Relay?

Welp.... first problem I’ve had with the 4runner.

Wouldn’t start yesterday after a brief stop for lunch. Cranked over - no ignition.. Checked fuses (none blown) - tapped on some relays; it fired right up I went back to work.

Fast forward a few hours.... left work and stopped for gas. Happened again.

Cranks over.
No ignition.
No fuel pump prime when key turned.

I cannot for the life of me find anything labeled fuel pump / etc on a relay. I do see all fuses related to ignition, ECU, multi port - injection, etc. checked them all. They’re all good.
Codes thrown are ALL six ignition coils bad. So I have to believe it’s something simple like a relay.

I’ve googled and YouTubed all night and morning. Nothing for 5th gens. Anybody have any thoughts or advice. Thanks.

I’m no certified Toyota mechanic but it does sound like it has to do with the Toyota fuel pump recall issue.

Do you have your 4Runner in a cold climate? I wondering if places that see a lot of snow see more of the fuel pump issues more than 4Runners that are in warmer weather.

Not necessarily cold at all. NW Indiana. And hell, it’s been in the 70s recently.

2018 TRD ORP - 52000 miles.

Just had it towed to dealer for diagnostics. I gave up after hours of trying to find a bad fuse or relay. No clue what’s goin on. But.... had a really strange noise coming from coil packs or around that area. Couldn’t nail it down exactly where it was coming from with key in the Acc position. We’ll see what they say.

Did you check your VIN to see if your 4R is on the fuel pump recall list?

Update as of 4am today..Found the problem...long reply. (Sorry)

The dealer didn’t have a clue what the problem was yesterday. I waited all day for them to tell me it was a “no start” problem. I asked them to confirm they tested that it had fuel and spark to which they replied yes. Told me the next step was to start ripping it apart and taking all my modifications off because it was showing open circuits and that they couldn’t pin point.

I have the accessorides remote start and a dual battery setup. They said one of those may have been the issue. And then went on to tell me that it may be caused by rodents getting in and chewing up wires - you know the....”well we’re going to start chasing wires and tearing it apart which will be expensive.”

I’d had enough of the booger eating moron service rep’s BS and had it towed back to my house. Ended up finding a pinched add-a-circuit for my DRLs (alpharex).... don’t know how I missed it the first time. It tied into the IGNITION fuse under the hood. Fixed that and it Fired right up. Then had to take it back to Toyota as they somehow deactivated my two spare keys trying to mess the immobilizer.

Needless to say - I was bit perturbed with the lack of troubleshooting skills (from a “master technican”) among other things for something as simple as that. I’m sure some of these guys know what they’re doing and are good at their job, but the dude who looked at my vehicle was either incompetent or completely lazy.

Let’s just say I won’t be getting a Christmas card from that Toyota dealership this year.

I was told I’m on the “interim” list. Nothing sent out yet for my VIN
