I know it's been talked about before, but man...the difference between hwy and city in our trucks is astounding. I went from a 14 mile a day RT commute in all city driving, and a 60 mile a day RT commute nearly all hwy, and I didn't notice nearly as much as I thought I would.

I get 250 on the highway before my gas light comes on, that is pretty much the best mileage I have gotten on the Runner. In the city it's about 195 before gas light comes on. Running BFG KO 265/75/16, 2 inch lift. I think there are to many factors to getting the correct MPG. One big factor is the quality of gas, I am almost sure that not only are you not getting the amount you pay for, but the quality is also degraded. Correct me if I am wrong.

That's interesting, because I see no difference in city and highway. I generally get between 18 and 20mpg and I couldn't tell you why the difference, sometimes I'll get better mpg in the city than on the highway, and sometimes not.

Nope, there is no difference in 85/87/91...ext for gas mileage.
all that number means is the higher ones can handle more pressure without randomly igniting without a spark. I norm use 85 when im above 4k feet.
if you hear pinging(premature ignition) then you need to bump up the higher octane. adding a supercharger with its higher pressure causes you to bump up the octane rating.
So long post for saying octane lvls has no effect one gas mileage :zoom:

2000 SR5 5spd SC 430 gears 81000mi 265/75/16,s ...for now.
I drive 50 miles a day highway and run @ 65mph. I get 19mpg now with the SC
Before it was 1 sometimes 2 more.
Drive faster, MPG goes down more....slower.... it might go up but you'll get run over around here.
Same here. My feeling is that the terrible aerodynamics at highway speeds balances out with the stop and go nature of city driving.

I was getting 18 city and about 22 hwy with stock tires, but now that I've got 33s I'm getting 15-16 city and probably 19-20 hwy. But being 2WD and have 3.73s I'm losing mileage because the truck has to work harder to move itself now. Once I swap in a 4.10 or 4.30 locker I think it will be good.

If I fill up right when the light comes on, I put less than 15 gallons in my tank. I know that it's 18.5, but the light comes on way early.

Its because there fuel gauge is off. On full empty, running for about an additional 20+ miles and gas light on I have yet to this day fit more than 15 gallons. Two of my buddys with same vehicle have exact issue.
I got 220 miles and 14.2 gallons on last tank and thats driving it for a long time uncomfortably under E trying to find my missing fuel. LOL.

That would suck, hate that running outa gas feeling.
I think I would get a scangauge or ultrragauge if I were you, after a couple tanks of gas it should be calibrated enough for you to fully trust it.

Im cool with 220-250 miles a tank. Also keeps fuel in tank to "to keep the pump cool" LOL.
I dont feel the need of a scanguage on this rig. No boost, nitrous, SC on this thing.

I get about 260 consistently no matter how I drive. I also have a bit larger tires than normal. I guess that probably puts me around 265-270.
