Fuel Sending Unit (F10 Connector)

97 4x4 manual V6

The fuel sending unit connector has five pins

what are the wires coming out the back of it and what do they do?

P1 ________ (Black/Red)
P2 ________ (Yellow/Red)
P3 ________ (Brown)

P4: Fuel Pump Power (Blue/Orange)
P5: Fuel Pump Ground (White/Black)

I know they have to do with the fuel level sensor and the low tank light. I'm assuming that P1 and P2 are for the level and P3 is for the light but I don't know that for sure. Any information that someone can provide on this topic would be appreciated. Thank you!

The Schematic I have is marked as being for a 2001-2005 4Runner, and the way Toyota changes wire colors they can change from month to month, it seems like, so the colors I found were different than the ones you specced. By the same token, the wires fade over time, and can fool you in dim light, which could account for the differences. Anywho, The way I read it, 1,2, and 3 feed from the sensors in the tank, the level sensor in particular, and feed back to the "Combination Meter", or the gauge cluster. The fuel gauge in particular, and IF the sensor goes low enough, you get the light. I THINK, although very rarely, that pin 3 is the voltage source, and 1 and 2 feed back to the gauge set to run the meter.

here is the Combination Meter Section from the '97 EWD.

For F10:

Pin 1 Fuel Light Black-Red
Pin 2 Fuel Gauge Yellow-Red
Pin 3 Ground Brown

Note that the Pin out diagrams are at the end of the attachment

Do you need confirmation on 4 and 5? I am certain you have those correct. They are in the Engine Control Section.
