Fuel Tank/Gas Guage

Hey,

I just got my 1999 4Runner back from getting the TSB for the Gas Gauge/Fuel Sensor that has plagued the '99s and '00s. I am wondering since this has been fixed what numbers should I be looking to get out of the fuel tank, average miles per tank, roughly? And how many gallons are left when the fuel light comes on?

Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

I run about 280 miles per tank depending on the driving habits. And ive found it for me at least to be safe around 30 miles when the light comes on.

280!!!!! That is about 80+ more than I get on a fill up. Is that normal for this TSB to make that much difference or do I got something else going on?

my 02 didnt have a tsb, but usually i get about 160 per half and 280 for full tank ive had 300 on freeway mileage before.

Could you please provide more details about that TSB? Did you replace the fuel sensor?

Here is the TSB info that affects '99 and '00 models.
TSB (Toyota Service Bulletin) # EL010-00, titled "Fuel Gauge Inaccuracy"

The TSB calls for a replacement of a faulty combination plate in the dash and some parts in the fuel tank, which includes a new fuel sensor.

I had very sporadic fuel readings and I had read about this being an issue and didn't want to deal with it so I had it fixed. Having the new peace of mind was worth the cost.

Well unlike some Toyota owners my family has a good relationship with the local Toyota dealership. And since I bought the vehicle used from them and noticed the problem within a week of purchase, they fixed it for me for about 75% off. I believe with all the parts and 1.1 hours of labor the standard cost from a dealer would have been $450+. But I didn't pay that so my situation is a bit different. $450+ is no small price tag so I definitely understand it when guys say they rather just used the Trip odometer every time they fill up.

damn 450, if it was 100 i would get it done, guess i will just have to continue driving for a while after the yellow light comes on.
