Fuel Tank Replace Questions!! Opinions please!!

Hey guys my 2000 sr5 5spd 4x4 had a nice little puddle of gasoline waiting for me outside the other morning , rust ate through the tank
so i hunted a got real good deal on a oem one for 75 bux thats still real clean.

any ways i was all set to just go ahead and do the fuel pump ,(preventative maintenance)pickup etc when i called toyota the parts guy more are less told me that our fuel pumps rarely fail and not to worry about it, a oem one will cost about 350

after a quick search on this here forum i saw little to now write ups on fuel pump replacements further giving me hope that i could save said money

so
1)whatcha think shes got 160k and purrs can i skip the pump for now?

2)if i had to do the pump later can i get at it in the cabin or do i have to lower the tank again?

3)what other parts should i replace as far as preventing further dropping of the new gas tank?

I have 225k on my original Pump, my old boss has a Tacoma that went nearly 600k before his pump failed, these pumps are pretty robust I wouldn't bother changing it till it failed.

Make sure you use new gaskets and if they are cheep replace any flex lines that look like they are beginning to dry rot, you may want to change the pump sock while you have it out.

To my knowledge you MUST drop the tank to change the Pump.

Maybe put in a new Fuel Filter but you don't need the tank out to do that.
 
Sweet gonna skip the pump makes sense I ordered the bracket/suction tube ,seal and the sending unit from Toyota and are restoring the used oem tank should be good to go!

I just replaced my fuel pump at 260k miles. It is an Denso kit with everything you need including "sock". When i took my original out it was exactly the same thing. Oem Toyota is Denso. Dont even think of buying this thing from the dealership. You can get it from Amazon for about 90 bucks. Might as well replace it while you have the tank out and not worry about it for a other 200k + miles.

The Cheaper denso one is the same?? i thought denso was the same but i thought it was a universal?? can someone confirm this?

FYI
the 83320-35530 was replaced by the 35590 i believe it looks different but it fits with instructions
