All specs on-line have the fuel tank at 24g for the 4Runner, my owners manual says 23g! Hmmm.... typo? I hope!

Owners manual plus the fact that 4th gens are 23 gallons and it's presumably the same tank, vs online specs. I'm voting for 23.

Funny you mention the fuel tank size. I was thinking the same thing because of the differences in the manual vs the web site. Another thing I've seen is a difference in 2 HP. I've seen it listed as 268 HP in some places and 270 in others. Not that 2 HP is huge, but is it 268 or 270???

Working Out Petrol (GAS) Range on a Modified 4runner
I thought this thread seemed appropriate for this question as I am still not 100% sure of the full capacity of the fuel tanks in the 5th gen 4runner's. I have never ran the truck to complete empty i.e out of gas, so its hard to say exactly what it holds. I am going with the "spec's" on Toyota's website that states the 5th Gen 4runner has a 23 gallon tank. Toyota 4Runner - 2013 Performance & Specifications
I'm trying to work out what my "average" fuel range on a full tank is. I have modified my truck way beyond the factory average range. I know the computer gas range on our trucks adjusts accordingly :suspicious: when reset and driving is pretty consistent over a period of time. But I DONT TRUST IT. I want to know in my head that when I fill up I have "x" range depending on an average of "y" driving. So here is my attempt. Please correct and suggest at will! As I'm trying to work this out.
Tank size: 23 Gallons
City MPG: 12 (these MPG's are averages and purposely low)
Highway MPG: 14
Making my "average" fuel range: 322 Miles
I know it will vary from the octane levels in the fuel you purchase to your driving habits to different road conditions etc.... but does this "average" sound about right?

I'd call it 300 miles just to allow a gallon or so error. SMAF is what it's called. (Save My Ass Factor) is used quite often in my world.

Oh yeah. Normally we work with "SF" or safety factors. The SMAF is reserved for whenever the normal SF is considered too close to actual and bad things can happen. Mr. Murphy is always lurking.

Its a 23 gallon tank, I believe it is in fact the exact same part number for the tank (Don't see why they would change it as the frame underpinning the 5th gen is fairly similar to the 4th gen along with suspension and most driveline components.
Your "range" on the onboard computer will usually hit 0 around 20-ish gallons of fuel (what I've noticed on a few 4Runners) which I assume is Toyota's SAMF (they want you to never run the vehicle below about 1/4 of a tank, so that makes sense they built a 3 gallon reserve for customers who like to push the limit and preserve fuel pump reliability.)
