Full length roof rack owners QUESTION

clean with a swifter (Credit to OKKI I think) and take it off to wax

I have seen swiffer pads wrapped in microfiber cloths used. That and/or pressure washing should be good to keep it clean but removing it 1x per year to wash & wax (or other product) would be ideal.
You don’t "need" to as many vehicles barely get washed certainly not waxed.....is it the "better" thing to do , I would say yes. Just like I would say it is "better" to change your oil & filter every 3k vs. 10k....Do I do that, no and I do not think it will make a noticeable difference in the life of the engine for the 10-15years I hope to have the truck.
P.S. I plan to do a similiar thing when my roof rack gets here, I have family with a lift and normally have a "maintenance day" which allows for great family bonding time and cars that are 12+ years old that run and drive better then most half their age

Waxed it before I put it on, use spray wax, a microfiber cloth, and patience......
Apply the latest technology "Paint Coating" before you install the rack. It should last at least a year if not two.

If you de-ionize your water or use soft-water to do the final rinse, you don't even need to dry your car or dry it too well as there won't be "water spots".

My paint isn't going to make it long enough to worry about wax anyway... so many pin stripes, I don't want to waste my time trying to dress it up. lol. I spray the roof down with a power washer, wash the sunroof and call it all good. I do use the no spot rinse though to reduce the water spots. Lol
