Fun with trannies

I purchased my 4runner in August. With 120k miles.

A few times since purchase the transmission didn't go into gear from R to D. But a quick shift to N then to D solved the issue. I would go a month or so without it happening again.

Today major issues started. Going to n or park didn't work. The transmission engages but there is slippage and delay when the gas is applied over 20 mph.

No check engine lights.

I'll have the transmission fluid drained tomorrow. Yeah I should have had it done sooner.

Would a failing converter throw a code? Or just stuck solenoids?

I have had no issues when the transmission is cold.

Fingers crossed the oil just needs to be changed, but expecting at a new torque converter.

Thoughts?

Was anyone else mislead by the title to this tread. I didn't want to open it, but then I saw replies......so I took a peek.

My wife's 08' is doing the same thing- On occasion it takes an extra five seconds to go from R to D.
How much was the solenoid repair??

I don't have mine back yet. I took it to a shop recommended by some guys of this forum. So far I am pleased with the communication.

The shop owner isn't 100%. This will fix the issue if other parts have been compromised. He said the dealer would just replace the transmission. I recommend getting yours looked at sooner than later.

It was supposed to be done today but apparently Toyota changed the design of the solenoid and it got the shop off guard. They wanted to do their homework before replacing it with a non matching part.

Picked up the 4runner today. My problem was random so it's too early to tell if it's 100% fixed but so far so good.

Really happy with JP Euro in Garland for the people in DFW. Best communication from a mechanic ever. Very professional.
