funny interaction with a fellow 5th gen owner

I went to Costco today to get some gas in the 4r. As I begin fueling' I see a 5th gen SR5 pull up across the aisle. I nod to the guy driving it acknowledging the fact that we are driving the same truck. As he begins fueling, he asks " what year is your 4r" and I say it's a 2011 . He says "oh good, yours is prettier than mine, I need to clean mine".

I laugh and thank him for the compliment. I walk over and ask him does he know about t4r.org ?

He says "no but I always put synthetic oil in the truck"
I say " good good but I just wanted to say that this is a great forum with lots of information about things like TSBs etc"

He says " oh OK but like I said earlier I put synthetic oil in mine always"

I once again congratulate him on using synthetic oil and say " anyway check out the site.. you may like it"

As I turn back towards my truck I hear him tell his wife " but I told him I use synthetic!" In an annoyed tone of voice!

Despite this being 2013, there are many who are not internet savvy. I have a SIL in Arizona who calls a couple times a month with computer issues. I have a pretty good track record, but fixing things from 1000 miles away is tough. Explaining them is tougher. You've got to give them credit - they are trying.

Most people I see at Home Depot would have the same reaction if you start talking about septuagenarians.

DannyLiama- exactly! However, given the way he was saying it and the pride he seemed to feel in using synthetic oil- I did not have the heart to tell him that all 5th Gen 4R's are supposed to only use synthetic oil!

Weird interaction is weird.

I normally park next to a 4cyl 2wd SR5 with my lifted T4R to establish male dominance. That's about the extent of my interaction with other T4R owners.

btw have you seen the size of my 2m antenna?
