fusible link wiring issues

I have an '87 4-Runner

Here is the history of my problem.

1. I hooked up my battery wrong and blew the 80amp fuse that is my fusible link.

2. When replacing my fuse two of my screws broke off. Now I can't screw the wires into the 80amp fuse.

3. Then shortly after my alternator went out on me.

4. I replaced the alternator and did a hack tape job to get power to the fusible link.

Problem is the hack job is not cutting it. The alternator is not recharging the battery. I took my '87 4-runner to the local shucks store and a guy tested the battery and its good but he stated no current is coming from the alternator to recharge it. The alternator is new so I'm wondering which wire is dedicated to bringing the alternator current into th e battery.

I'm a computer guy not a mechanic and would really appreciate some help. A friend of mine is going to help me drill out where the old screws broke and try to reattach my cables to the fusible link with self tapping screws.

Can anyone offer advice on how to track down why my alternator does not seem to be recharging the battery. Also, if you have a better solution on how to fix my wiring to the fusible link.

Any diagrams out there for the fusible link wiring?

Any chance you could snap a pic of the fuse and the wires going to it? Also You mentioned in the other thread about the wires going to the battery and it got me to remembering I have seen wires corroded down under the insulation and actually broken but being held together by the insulation as much as a few inches from the end of the wire. I guess the fix was to cut back the insulation until clean copper is exposed and chop off the damaged stuff. Not sure if this applies in this situation. Also I'm wondering if you might have a prob with the wire loom to the alternator.

Yeah, what screws are you talking about?

Rebuilt alts have be DOA, you might want to pull it and have it bench tested.

Also may have melted some wires.

I made comments on each photo.

I'm still not sure how the alternator gets a charge to the battery. Also, should my troubleshooting start with getting the new alternator bench tested or is there a better place to start.

Yeah, what screws are you talking about?

The screws are going into the 80amp fuse. Please check out the photo link in the posting above.

Can you pull that fuse box board and look at the underside of it? You may have some burned traces underneath.

Hit the wrecking yard and cut out a replacement, make sure you cut enough wire.:beer:

I have it back together and working but I keep blowing the 30amp fuse in the kick panel. This fuse is controlling my gauges, tail lights, etc. I also notice that my battery charge light comes on when the fuse is out.

Thanks for posting. I'll take a look at the under side today and look for any damage.

I live in a small town, Soldotna Alaska, and our wreking yards have no 4-runners. I'll have to wait until my next day trip to Anchorage, not sure when that will be.
