Galactic Grey touch up doesn't match

I recently bought a bottle of the Toyota/Lexus touch up paint for Galactic Grey and it doesn't match. It is a much lighter grey. Anyone else notice this? I have a 2006. I accidentally very lightly touched the door edge to the wall of my garage and with the paint being very thin on the door edges, it chipped slightly. Anyone know what it would cost to have this professionally touched up? I didn't think it was noticeable until I washed the Runner and saw it in the sunlight yesterday. It is definitely a shade lighter.

i have found no matter what color, the touch up paint differs. My 4runner is silver, and it applies darker than the truck.

Toyota touch up paint will never match exactly. I have a titanium runner and the touch up paint is ever so slightly darker too. I always apply the paint with either a needle or toothpick to minimize the "globbing" for lack of a better term. That or an artist brush size 0. The important thing is that no bare metal shows, as long as it is sealed. I know it sucks, but there are worse things like front end chips and windshield chips (I have a few). THOSE piss me off to no end. Just give it 2 - 3 coats of good wax too and you'll be ok.

I also put some plastic airbags (like the ones you get in packaging) on my garage wall to cushion the edges of my door when my kids open the doors. I just place them onto the wall where the door would contact. It sounds like a cheap mickey mouse solution, but it saves my door edges from scratches and it doesn't trade the paint for drywall.

Yeah I remember someone telling me the only touch-up paint that matches exactly is black. Other than that forget it. I have never had luck with any shade of silver paint whether is be grey silver, bright silver, dark silver, it is really hard to match. I am sure I will get over it. Makes me sick since it was my stupid fault. I know there are places that fix chips and what not but I have seen their work and it doesn't look that great all the time.

might give these guys a look ive ordered the thundercloud color for my 02 and it matched perfectly. its kinda pricey though.

I have a White 04, and the touchup paint is a perfect match. I have touched up several areas, then carefully wet sanded the excess off, and I don't see the touchup areas unless I look at an extreme angle where I can still see a bit of a bump. The color itself matches though.

Ya white and black are the easiest too match.....I've never had much luck with touch up paint on any other colour.

If you can find a guy local to you that does airbrush touchup....that's usually a good route if pricing is reasonable.

Thanks, I may look into it. I went out at lunch and had a good look at it in the sun and it is barely noticeable since it is on the door edge. I think I can blend it in a little better but I may take it somewhere and see if someone can touch it up for me so it isn't noticeable as long as the price is reasonable. And yes, I know there will be chips and scratches to come so maybe I will just learn to live with it since it isn't readily apparent.

Just ordered from paintscratch so we'll see if their stuff matches any better. I ordered the paint pen kit which I think will be better than the factory brush-on crap from the get go. I will let you know how I make out so other members know whether or not the paint matches better than factory touch up. Thanks for your help.

For those with paint chips rather than scratches, I'd advise using http://langka.com/ plus your touch up paint.

I've used it several times on my old RSX, and thought that it worked well. Not so good on long scratches, but for stone chips it worked awesome.

try your local dealer that also has a body shop. most shops will provide some touch up as a courtesy. (they will always have some extra) then all you will need is some clear touch up to fill the nick after you have applied the color
