Here’s what I did to my wife’s car, and it works really well.
Take the cover off the garage door opener and solder two wires to the contacts that are connected when you push the button to open/close the door. Snake the wires out, protect them, and close the cover. Take out an unused blank switch cover from a convenient location and drill an appropriate sized hole for a push button switch. Get a small momentary push button, install it in the switch blank, connect the wires to the switch contacts. Use Velcro to attach the door opener under the dash somewhere convenient so you can easily get it out to change the battery.
Then you have an attractive little button, and this hides the opener, which thieves sometimes look for to get into garages.

I’ve had the same problem with my garage door opener clip, it always looked awkward hanging off the visor. I ended up putting some heavy-duty Velcro on the back of the remote and attaching it to the dashboard instead. It’s much more secure and doesn’t get in the way. Another option is to use a universal remote that fits better or even program the opener into your car if it has that feature.

A while back, I replaced my old garage door altogether when it started having other issues. I ended up going with a modern belt-drive system, which came with a sleeker remote design. If you’re thinking about upgrading, you might want to get a new garage door that fits your needs better.
